Gay only played 56 percent of the defensive snaps in the regular-season finale, his lowest total since Week 7, likely as a precautionary measure with the playoffs looming and the Chiefs leading comfortably in the contest. In addition to a career-high 88 tackles (51 solo) in 2022, Gay compiled career-best outputs of 2.5 sacks and eight passes defended, adding a pick-six in Week 14 in Denver. He's an explosive athlete who was viewed as raw coming out of the draft but has seemingly come into his own three years into his career. Gay remains under contract with Kansas City through the 2023 campaign, at which point the Chiefs will have some decisions to make, with several contributing players at or near the end of their respective rookie deals.

Gay made one of the more impressive defensive plays of the season, leaping to deflect a pass to himself before stiff arming quarterback Russell Wilson (concussion) on his way to a 47-yard touchdown in the second quarter. The 24-year-old also played the second-most defensive snaps (45) of any Chiefs linebacker behind leading tackler Nick Bolton. Gay has now logged career highs in tackles (63), sacks (2.5) and pass defended (five) over just nine games this season, and he should continue to play a prominent all-around role Week 15 versus Houston.

Gay saw his highest playing time of the season since Week 2, lining up on 82 percent of the Chiefs' defensive snaps Sunday. Gay has been suspended for the next four games due to violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Gay's suspension stems from a January arrest on misdemeanor property damages, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. The suspension will begin immediately, while leaving the third-year-pro out of action until Week 7 against the 49ers. It's a tough blow, not only for Gay, but the Chiefs defense as well. In his absence, Darius Harris will likely step into the starting role at weakside linebacker.

Gay recorded 11 tackles (six solo), including two for loss, and added two pass defenses during Thursday's 27-24 win over the Chargers.
Gay and Nick Bolton each registered double-digit tackles, but the former outpaced the latter by one and was the only Chiefs player to recorded multiple pass deflections. Across two games, Gay has totaled 16 tackles over 109 defensive snaps and appears to have carved out a much bigger role than he had last year, when he finished with a career-high 48 tackles across 12 appearances. The 2020 second-round pick will look to maintain his strong play against the Colts in Week 3.
