Jets' Xavier Newman: Going to IR
The Jets placed Newman (neck) on their injured reserve list Wednesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Newman left Sunday's game at Pittsburgh early on a spine board, so it's not totally surprising that he'll have to miss at least the Jets' next four games. In his absence, Jake Hanson becomes the team's top bench piece on the interior of the offensive line.

Jets' Xavier Newman: Traveling back with team
Newman (neck) is traveling back with the team after Sunday's 37-15 loss to the Steelers, per interim coach Jeff Ulbrich, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Newman was taken to a local Pittsburgh-area hospital after exiting Sunday's loss on a spine board in a scary scene, but Ulbrich revealed that tests at the hospital came back negative and Newman gained clearance to travel back to New York with his teammates. Despite this good news, Newman seems unlikely to be available when the Jets face the Patriots in Week 8.

Jets' Xavier Newman: Leaves on spine board
Newman (neck) will not return to Sunday night's game against the Steelers.
The offensive lineman had to be strapped to a spine board and carted off the field. Newman was playing in place of injured right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle). Jake Hanson replaced Newman.

Jets' Xavier Newman: Practices in full Thursday
Newman (shoulder) was a full participant in Thursday's practice session.
Newman sustained a shoulder injury in the Jets' preseason finale against the Giants. He appears to have recovered from the injury and will be good to go for Monday's regular-season opener against San Francisco. Newman is slated as the backup center on the Jets' depth chart behind Joe Tippmann.

Jets' Xavier Newman: Won't return Saturday
Newman has been ruled out for the rest of Saturday's game against the Giants due to a shoulder injury, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Newman sustained the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game. He's competing for a depth spot on the Jets' offensive line, and the extent of his injury will likely factor into his chances of making the 53-man roster at the end of training camp.
