Quincy Enunwa: Cut by New York
The Jets released Enunwa (neck) on Monday, Eric Allen and Randy Lange of the team's official site report.
The 28-year-old wideout had previously been placed on the reserve/PUP list in May due to the career-threatening neck injury he suffered early in 2019. The Jets weren't counting on him to contribute at any point in 2020, so his release comes as little surprise. Enunwa, who logged 119 receptions for 1,617 yards and five touchdowns over 41 career games with the Jets, will presumably look to gain full medical clearance from the injury and attempt to find work with another team ahead of the 2021 season.

Jets' Quincy Enunwa: Intends to continue career
Enunwa (neck) is not considering retirement despite battling a career-threatening injury, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.
Enunwa's neck injury limited him to just one game in 2019 (12 combined regular-season games since 2017), and Cimini now reports that the Jets have ruled him out for the 2020 campaign. Despite the severity of his injury -- a timetable for the soon-to-be 28-year-old's return remaining undisclosed -- Enunwa relayed that he hopes to retake the field in the future. "If I'm capable of playing, then that's what I'll do," Enunwa said. He carries a fully guaranteed $6 million salary for 2020, and in 2021 he'll have a $4.1 million injury guarantee, so it remains in the Jets' best interest to stick with Enunwa throughout his rehab process and hope for a possible return to the field.

Jets' Quincy Enunwa: Likely out for 2020 season
The Jets will place Enunwa (neck) on the reserve/PUP list Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
New York is also moving Josh Bellamy (shoulder) to the same list, with Rapoport relaying that the organization doesn't expect either receiver to play during the 2020 season. Considering Enunwa has played just 12 regular-season contests dating back to 2017 as a result of neck issues, his time in the NFL could well be over. The injuries to Enunwa and Bellamy likely had a hand in the Jets' decision to invest a second-round pick into Baylor receiver Denzel Mims during April's draft.

Jets' Quincy Enunwa: Gets salary guarantee
Enunwa (neck), whose $6 million salary for 2020 is now fully guaranteed, remains "a big question mark" for the Jets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
The Jets presumably would've released Enunwa if he'd been healthy enough to pass a physical before the March 22 deadline for his salary guarantee. GM Joe Douglas is the one who called the wide receiver a question mark, adding that he hopes to have more information soon. It remains unclear if Enunwa will ever make it back on a football field after he suffered the second major neck injury of his career, but he doesn't have any immediate plans to retire. The Jets signed him to a four-year, $36 million contract in December 2018, only to see Enunwa suffer the neck injury Week 1 of 2019. He previously missed the entire 2017 campaign with a bulging disc in his neck, and he's now played just 12 games over a span of three seasons.

Jets' Quincy Enunwa: Aiming to be ready in 2020
General manager Joe Douglas said the Jets hope Enunwa (neck) is ready for the 2020 season, and they want him in New York if he is, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Enunwa sustained his second serious neck injury in three years when he was hurt in Week 1, and there haven't been any updates on his recovery since. However, Enunwa is signed through the 2022 season with over $20 million in guaranteed cash, so the Jets would predictably like him to come back healthy. The 27-year-old played 11 games in the 2018 season, recording 38 receptions for 449 yards and a score.

The Jets' acquisition Tuesday of Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) had already cast some doubt on Enunwa's status as a starter, but no competition for reps between the two will happen now that Enunwa has been shuttered for the season Enunwa was sent in for further testing Monday, and while the Jets determined he was dealing with a serious injury, it's unclear at this time if his latest setback with his neck is career-threatening. Enunwa previously missed the entire 2017 season due to a bulging disc in his neck that surfaced in training camp that year, but after returning healthy in 2018, he inked a four-year, $36 million contract extension in late December. Assuming he's healthy in his own right, Thomas could immediately take on a sizable snap share in Week 2 against the Browns, working alongside deep threat Robby Anderson and slot specialist Jamison Crowder.
