  • Paul Perkins: Cut by Colts

    Indianapolis released Perkins on Monday.

Perkins spent the latter portion of the 2020 season on Indianapolis' practice squad, but he hasn't suited up for a regular-season game since 2019 with the Lions. Heading into his age-27 season, Perkins now stands to search for a reserve role elsewhere.

  • Colts' Paul Perkins: Secures future deal with Colts

Perkins officially secured a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis on Sunday.

Toward the end of the 2020 campaign, Perkins spent time with the Colts' practice squad and now has a future contract with the team. The 26-year-old didn't suit up for a game this year and will likely serve as a depth option in the backfield in the upcoming season.

  • Paul Perkins: Inks deal with Colts

Perkins signed a contract with the Colts' practice squad Thursday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Perkins bounced around practice squads last season and also logged 29 yards on 12 rushing attempt in four games with the Lions. Perkins will add a veteran presence and depth to the organization, as the team is currently set with Jonathan Taylor, Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines at running back.

  • Paul Perkins: Signs with practice squad

Perkins inked a deal with the Ravens' practice squad Tuesday.

Perkins has bounced around this year, making stops with the Giants, Lions and Jaguars, but he only suited up in four games with the Lions. He'll add necessary depth to the Ravens' backfield since Mark Ingram is working through a nagging calf injury.

  • Paul Perkins: Hits Jaguars' practice squad

The Jaguars signed Perkins to the practice squad Tuesday, freelance NFL writer Howard Balzer reports.

Perkins appeared in four games with the Lions earlier this season, racking up 29 yards on 12 carries while catching his only target for nine yards. He'll wait in the wings for a depth opportunity to open up in Jacksonville's backfield.

  • Paul Perkins: Waived again

Perkins was waived by the Lions on Saturday.

This is now the third time Perkins has been waived by the Lions since the team picked him up off waivers from the Giants in mid-September. The 2016 fifth-round pick is certainly a candidate to rejoin the team at some point down the road, but considering the Lions signed Bo Scarbrough off the practice to replace Perkins, it's clear the team is looking for a different answer at the running back position.

  • Lions' Paul Perkins: Season high in carries

Perkins carried seven times for nine yards while securing his only target for nine yards during Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Bears.

Ty Johnson (concussion) exited halfway through the first quarter, and Perkins ultimately saw his most carries since Week 4 of 2017. Not only did he fail to do much with his opportunities, but J.D. McKissic ultimately wound up with 70 percent of the offensive snaps while Perkins (15 snaps) barely saw more than Johnson did before leaving (12). It's possible Perkins could be more involved on early downs if Johnson is forced to miss any time, but it's looking like McKissic is the guy to own in the Detroit backfield in advance of the team's Week 11 game against Dallas.

  • Lions' Paul Perkins: Pops for 13-yard gain

Perkins carried three times for 16 yards during Sunday's 31-24 loss to Oakland.

Playing in his third game with the Lions this season, Perkins carried the ball on each of his three offensive snaps and did most of his work on his first touch that went for 13 yards out of a shotgun formation during the second quarter. However, both Ty Johnson (44 offensive snaps) and J.D. McKissic (27) saw far more playing time than the former Giants starter, so it's probably best to leave Perkins on the waiver wire.

  • Paul Perkins: Rejoins Detroit's practice squad

The Lions signed Perkins to the practice squad Friday.

Perkins was cut by the Lions on Wednesday. Since being waived by the Giants in mid-September, he's bounced between Detroit's 53-man roster and practice squad. With Tra Carson nursing a hamstring issue, it's conceivable that Perkins could make his way back to the active roster in the near future.

  • Lions' Paul Perkins: Signed off practice squad

Perkins was signed from the practice squad Saturday.

It's yet another stint on the active roster for Perkins, although this one seems like an opportunity for the 2016 fifth-round pick to stick for an extended run, as the Lions placed nominal starting running back Tra Carson (hamstring) on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Both Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic figure to handle the bulk of the load this Sunday, but the duo was assumed the primary ball carriers last week, only for Carson to register 12 inefficient carries to a combined eight from Johnson and McKissic.

  • Paul Perkins: Cut by Detroit

Perkins was cut by the Lions on Wednesday, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.

Perkins has been bouncing between the Lions' 53-man roster and practice squad ever since he was waived by the Giants in mid-September. He finally got some work on offense in Sunday's 31-26 win over his former team, taking three carries for four yards on six snaps. The Lions now move forward with Tra Carson, Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic in their backfield, though Perkins could rejoin the practice squad at some point.

  • Lions' Paul Perkins: Makes offensive debut

Perkins carried three times for four yards during Sunday's 31-26 victory over the Giants.

These were the first offensive snaps Perkins saw in 2019 and they came in the wake of Kerryon Johnson's (knee) placement on injured reserve. While the 24-year-old wasn't particularly effective with his touches, the same is true for every other Lions running back and it seems possible that Perkins could continue to get a couple of touches per game unless one of Ty Johnson, Tra Carson or J.D. McKissic emerges as a clear lead back.

The Lions promoted Perkins from the practice squad to the active roster Wednesday, Kyle Meinke of reports.

Perkins was waived by the Lions just under a week ago but will rejoin the team following the placement of Kerryon Johnson (knee) on injured reserve. The 2016 fifth-round pick will provide depth behind Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic going forward.

  • Lions' Paul Perkins: Won't play Sunday

Perkins (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Chiefs.

Perkins has yet to play for Detroit since joining the team two weeks ago. He appears to be at the backend of the team's running back depth chart and isn't likely to see action unless there's an injury at the position.
