Bills' Tyler Matakevich: New deal with Buffalo
Matakevich and the Bills agreed to a two-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Matakevich will stay in Buffalo, returning to the team for a fourth straight year in 2023. The linebacker is a leader on the Bills' special teams units, playing only two defensive snaps last season in comparison to 322 on special teams. Matakevich recorded a career-low six tackles in 2022, something he'll look to improve next year.

Matakevich totaled four solo tackles, one pass deflection and one interception during Sunday's 40-0 win over the Texans.
Matakevich recorded his first interception of his six-year career against the Texans on Sunday. The 28-year-old is a special-teams ace, but he isn't a viable fantasy option due to his lack of defensive snaps, as he only has 14 of them on the season, seven of which came in Sunday's blowout win.

Bills' Tyler Matakevich: Re-ups with Buffalo
The Bills signed Matakevich to a one-year contract extension Monday. WGR 550 in Buffalo reports.
Matakevich only played 72 defensive snaps last season -- his first with the Bills after four seasons with the Steelers -- but he's one of the best special teamers in the league and Buffalo is happy to have him back. Matakevich led the Bills in special teams tackles (10) and snaps (71 percent) in 2020.

Steelers' Tyler Matakevich: New special teamer for Buffalo
The Bills have signed Matakevich to a two-year deal worth up to $7.15 million, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Plain and simple, this is a depth signing, but the Bills are on the lookout for high-motor guys with special teams skills and Matakevich fits that bill. He's averaged more than 300 special-teams snaps per season since joining the Steelers as a seventh-rounder out of Temple in 2016 while finishing in the top 10 in special-teams tackles three times. Matakevich hardly ever saw snaps on defense with Pittsburgh, but he's probably got enough ability to serve as the primary backup to one of Buffalo's starting linebackers.

Steelers' Tyler Matakevich: No tackles in loss

Matakevich (shoulder) is healthy and now the frontrunner to be starting ILB for the Steelers after OTAs, ESPN.com reports.
The Steelers signed Jon Bostic, who had 97 tackles (57 solo) for the Colts last season, but Matakevich stole the show during offseason workouts. Matakevich played with an edge while showing off his football instincts, and that combination makes him the likely replacement for Ryan Shazier (spine). The 2016 seventh-round pick has never played more than 60 defensive snaps in a season, however, so he'll need a solid preseason to solidify his role.

Matakevich (shoulder) hopes to be fully recovered in time for offseason workouts, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Matakevich underwent surgery in January to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Even with Ryan Shazier (spine) ruled out for the entire 2018 season, a healthy Matakevich isn't considered a realistic candidate to step into the first-string lineup following the Steelers' signing of Jon Bostic to step in next to incumbent starter Vince Williams.

Steelers' Tyler Matakevich: Slated for shoulder surgery
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that Matakevich will undergo shoulder surgery Wednesday, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Pittsburgh may not have a clear grasp on Matakevich's timetable until after the procedure is completed, but it will more than likely prevent the linebacker from being a full participant during the team's offseason program. The 25-year-old didn't see his responsibilities increase much in his second NFL season, as he appeared in 15 games but managed just 23 tackles (18 solo) in a backup role.

Steelers' Tyler Matakevich: Consistently unproductive this season
Matakevich, who recorded two tackles (both solo) in the Week 17 win over the Browns, finished the 2017 season with 23 tackles (18 solo) in 15 games.
The second-year linebacker produced similar numbers as his rookie season, in which he recorded 20 tackles (16 solo) in 16 games, mostly on special teams play. Matakevich is young (25), cost-effective at just over $600,000 per year, and under contract until 2020, so he should be back with Pittsburgh next season, although he shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar.
