  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Makes nine stops

Klein recorded nine tackles in Thursday's 28-25 win over the Lions.

Klein made his debut with the Bills after being claimed off waivers Nov. 17. He was on the field for 100 percent of defensive snaps and finished second on the team with nine stops. So long as Tremaine Edmunds (groin) remains sidelined, Klein figures to have a significant role in the middle of the Buffalo defense.

  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Claimed by Bills

The Bills claimed Klein off waivers from the Bears on Thursday.

The 31-year-old was initially acquired by Chicago as part of a trade that sent middle linebacker Roquan Smith to the Ravens in early October. However, Klein suited up for only nine special-teams snaps over two contests with the Bears, and he was waived by the team Tuesday. The 10th-year linebacker spent the last two seasons with Buffalo, recording 110 tackles, five sacks, nine passes defended and an interception over 31 regular-season games, and his experience with the team should help him to carve out a reserve role behind middle linebackers Tremaine Edmunds (groin) and Tyrel Dodson.

  • Bears' A.J. Klein: Packing bags for Chicago

Baltimore traded Klein along with second and fifth-round draft picks to the Bears in exchange for Roquan Smith on Monday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.

Klein will likely fill a depth role in a linebacker room that just parted ways with one of the position's very best players. The 10-year veteran has played just 18 defensive snaps over two appearances so far in 2022.

  • Ravens' A.J. Klein: Inks deal with Baltimore

The Ravens signed Klein off the Giants' practice squad Thursday, Ryan Mink of the team's official site reports.

Klein was released by the Bills in March after dropping into a rotational role at linebacker last season. After logging 75 tackles, five sacks and four passes defended over 652 defensive snaps in 2020, the 31-year-old played 262 of his 470 of his total snaps on defense in 15 games last season. Klein still recorded 35 tackles, five passes defended and an interception in 2021, and he could slot in as a primary reserve behind inside linebackers Josh Bynes and Patrick Queen.

  • A.J. Klein: Released by Buffalo

The Bills released Klein on Tuesday.

After notching a career-high 75 tackles in 2020, Klein registered just 35 stops in 2021 -- his fewest since 2016 -- and failed to record a sack for the first time since 2014. The move will save the Bills over $5 million in cap space, while Klein figures to garner plenty of interest from around the league once he hits free agency.

  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Returns from COVID-19 list

Klein returned from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Klein tested positive for COVID-19 early last week and was forced to miss two games. However, he's now been cleared to rejoin the team and will likely be available for Sunday's matchup against Carolina.

  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Tests positive for COVID-19

Klein's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list hours before Monday's 14-10 loss to the Patriots was the result of a positive test for the virus, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.

While Klein was sidelined for the Week 13 loss, Tyrel Dodson stepped in as the Bills' third linebacker alongside Matt Milano and Tremaine Edmunds, playing 53.1 percent of the snaps on defense. If Klein is vaccinated, he'll have a chance to play in the Bills' next game Sunday against the Buccaneers, provided he's asymptomatic of the virus for a 48-hour period beforehand and tests negative on two occasions at least 24 hours apart.

  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Out for Monday night game

The Bills placed Klein on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Monday's game against the Patriots, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.

The absence of Klein for Week 13 is an unexpected blow to a defense that just lost stud corner Tre'Davious White to a season-ending knee injury. Tyler Matakevich and Andre Smith should be in line for more snaps as the Bills try to slow down a red-hot Patriots team in a game that has huge implications for both the AFC East crown and conference seeding.

  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Big-ticket IDP outing

Klein racked up 14 combined tackles and 1.5 sacks during Sunday's win over the Chargers.

The veteran free-agent signee has really started to hit his stride for the Bills with fellow starter Matt Milano on injured reserve, posting 30 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the three games Milano has missed. "Coach Klein," as his teammates have been calling him, remains a sneaky IDP play when the Bills take on the 49ers on Monday night.

  • Bills' A.J. Klein: Continues to produce

Klein compiled a season-high 11 tackles in Sunday's loss to Arizona while also adding a sack.

Klein has been all over the field the last two weeks, which comes as no small coincidence with fellow starter Matt Milano (pectoral) on IR. That's moved Klein from being the first starting linebacker to sit out in certain sets into pretty much an every-down player. Klein played 92 percent of defensive snaps Sunday after seeing 95 percent in Week 9. The Bills are on bye this week, but the veteran makes for a sneaky IDP play if you need someone for Week 12, as Milano is guaranteed to be out for at least more game due to IR rules.
