  • Derrick Morgan: Announces retirement

Morgan is retiring from football, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

A 2010 first-round pick, Morgan played each of his nine NFL seasons with Tennessee, notching 306 tackles (208 solo) and 44.5 sacks in 118 games. He had at least 4.5 sacks every year from 2012 to 2017, averaging 6.7 per season during that stretch. With fellow outside linebacker Brian Orakpo also retiring, the Titans are counting on Cameron Wake, Harold Landry and Kamalei Correa to provide a pass rush off the edge for an otherwise stellar defense.

  • Titans' Derrick Morgan: Could move on from Tennessee

Morgan, an impending free agent, said he isn't too worried about his future and plans to evaluate all his options, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.

The 2010 first-round pick made it through the entirety of a four-year, $27 million contract, but he had just 25 tackles and 0.5 sacks in 13 games (12 starts) this past season. He'll presumably have to settle for a smaller contract ahead of his age-30 campaign, and there's no guarantee of a starting job whether he stays in Tennessee or heads elsewhere. Morgan did have 16.5 sacks in 29 games between the 2016 and 2017 seasons, so it's still reasonable to hope for a rebound.

Morgan recorded four tackles in Thursday's 30-9 win over the Jaguars.

Morgan was battling a knee injury during the short week leading up to Thursday's action, though he managed to take the field against Jacksonville. He's battled issues throughout the season -- a shoulder injury caused him to miss a month of action -- limiting his effectiveness. Regarded as one of the Titans' best pass rushers entering the season, he has just 0.5 sacks and 19 tackles.

Morgan (shoulder) was ruled out for Monday's game against the Cowboys, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
