Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Won't be ready for start of season
Garland (toe) is likely to miss time to open the 2025-26 season, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
While the Cavaliers announced earlier Monday that Garland was expected to resume basketball activities by the start of training camp in October, the team also relayed that the point guard was facing a recovery timeline of 4-to-5 months after undergoing surgery to repair his left great toe. According to sources familiar with the situation, Garland's recovery program looks like it will trend closer to five months than four, which means that the point guard will miss at least a handful of games to begin the campaign. Donovan Mitchell will likely see more on-ball opportunities for whatever length of time Garland is sidelined.

Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Likely for camp following surgery
The Cavaliers announced Monday that Garland underwent surgery on his left great toe and is expected to resume basketball activities by the start of training camp.
Garland sprained the toe late in the regular season, and the injury hindered him during the playoffs. The point guard averaged only 14.0 points and 4.0 assists in 28.3 minutes per game over his final three appearances after missing a four-game stretch, which included the final two wins of Cleveland's first-round series against Miami and the first two contests of the second-round series versus Indiana. Garland was a key catalyst for the top-seeded Cavaliers during the regular season, averaging 20.6 points, 6.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 30.7 minutes.

Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Struggles in elimination game
Garland had 11 points (4-16 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes during Tuesday's 114-105 loss to the Pacers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
It's been no secret that Garland's toe injury affected him in the playoffs, but credit to him for pushing through at less than 100 percent. The Cavaliers may have been bounced out of the playoffs with a 3-1 loss, but they had an impressive regular season with a 64-18 record, good for first place in the Eastern Conference. Garland made 75 regular-season appearances, hitting 47.2 percent from the field with averages of 20.6 points, 6.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 2.8 three-pointers. Cleveland's star point guard is under contract with the team for another three seasons.

Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Drops 21 points in Game 4 loss
Garland notched 21 points (6-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 8-8 FT), six assists, one rebound and one steal over 27 minutes during Sunday's 129-109 loss to the Pacers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Playing in his second straight game after he sat out the final two contests of the Cavaliers' first-round sweep of the Heat as well as Games 1 and 2 of the semifinal round due to a left big toe sprain, Garland paced Cleveland in the scoring column, but his efforts weren't nearly enough to keep his team competitive in a blowout loss. Donovan Mitchell (knee) missed the entire second half of Game 4 and is set to undergo an MRI on Monday, and his potential absence in Game 5 on Tuesday could result in the Cavaliers needing to rely even more heavily on Garland in an elimination game.
