Wizards' Marcus Smart: Debuting after All-Star break
Smart (recently traded) isn't expected to make his Wizards debut after the All-Star break, sources tell Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
Smart isn't dealing with an injury, but after being acquired from the Grizzlies on Thursday, the Wizards will give the veteran guard some extra time to get integrated with his new team. Smart will miss Monday's game against the Spurs and Wednesday's game against the Pacers, but he will likely be available to make his Wizards debut in a Feb. 21 matchup against the Bucks. The Wizards plan to take a similar approach with another veteran trade-deadline pickup in Khris Middleton and hold him out through the All-Star break, making it unclear at the moment how the two players will fit with the team's young core.

Wizards' Marcus Smart: Traded to Washington
The Grizzlies traded Smart and a 2025 first-round pick to the Wizards on Thursday in exchange for two second-round picks, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
Smart has struggled with injuries this season, limiting him to 19 appearances with the Grizzlies. His playing time was way down as well, as Smart averaged 21.1 minutes per contest with 8.7 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from beyond the arc. In Washington, Smart could have a lot more opportunity as a leader in that backcourt, but he'll be 31 in March and the Wizards are in the early stages of a rebuild. That means player development could be their focus in the final months of the season.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Unproductive in return
Smart (finger) recorded zero points (0-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt), two assists and one rebound across 18 minutes in Wednesday's 138-107 victory over Toronto.
Smart made his return to action after missing the Grizzlies' last 21 games while recovering from a right index finger partial extensor hood tear. The rust was obvious, as Smart missed all six of his shot attempts in his limited role off the bench. The Grizzlies have one of the deepest rosters in the league, so it could be difficult for Smart to carve out much more playing time in future contests, even if Desmond Bane (ankle) remains sidelined.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Available Wednesday
Smart (finger) is available for Wednesday's game against the Raptors.
Smart has been upgraded from questionable to available and will make his first appearance since Dec. 21. The veteran will likely face heavy restrictions given his layoff, but with Desmond Bane (foot) out, the Grizzlies will take as much as they can get out of Smart.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Questionable for Wednesday
Smart (finger) is questionable for Wednesday's game against Toronto.
The questionable tag suggests that Smart is nearing a return to game action. He was listed as doubtful for Monday's win over the Spurs before being ruled out. The veteran guard has missed the club's last 21 outings due to a partial extensor hood tear of his right index finger, and it wouldn't come as a surprise if he operates under a minutes restriction whenever he returns.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Listed doubtful Monday
Smart (finger) is listed as doubtful for Monday's matchup against the Spurs.
The doubtful tag effectively represents an upgrade for Smart, who was previously considered week-to-week due to a partial extensor hood tear of his right index finger, an injury he sustained Dec. 21. The veteran guard will most likely remain sidelined Monday, but he could be in line to return to action later this week.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Considered week-to-week
Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said Wednesday that Smart (finger) isn't yet practicing with the team and is still considered week-to-week, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.
Smart has not played since Dec. 21 due to a partial tear of the proximal extensor hood of his right index finger. While he hasn't resumed taking part in drills with the Grizzlies, Smart has been able to do some individual work on the court. He can safely be ruled out for the Grizzlies' remaining two games this week, and it wouldn't be surprising if his absence extends beyond next week.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Viewed as week-to-week
The Grizzlies announced Friday that Smart (finger) is progressing well in his rehabilitation and is now considered week-to-week.
Smart is recovering from a partial tear of the proximal extensor hood of his right index finger, an injury he sustained Dec. 21 against Atlanta. On the bright side, the veteran guard is progressing toward a return to game action, though the week-to-week designation suggests that he may require a bit more of a ramp-up process. Smart is averaging 9.2 points, 3.8 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 three-pointers and 1.3 steals in 21.2 minutes per game over 18 appearances thus far.

Grizzlies' Marcus Smart: Out at least two more weeks
The Grizzlies announced Saturday that Smart has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the proximal extensor hood of his right index finger and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Smart suffered the injury in a Dec. 21 win over the Hawks, and further testing revealed a more serious issue than initially anticipated. Given that the two-week period merely marks a re-evaluation date, Smart could require some ramp-up time beyond that, meaning that a mid-January return to game action could represent a best-case scenario for the veteran guard. Smart's absence should open up more minutes on the second unit for Jaylen Wells and Luke Kennard.
