  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Lands on IL with strained hamstring

The Padres placed Lockridge on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left hamstring strain.

Lockridge had to depart Sunday's game against the Rockies with the injury and it's going to cost him at least the next week-and-a-half of action. He had been filling in for Jackson Merrill (hamstring) as the Padres' primary center fielder. San Diego could use a combination of Tyler Wade and Jason Heyward in center field until one of Merrill or Lockridge returns.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Filling in for injured Merrill

Lockridge will start in center field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Lockridge will man center for the third game in a row and could end up getting a look as a full-time player in the San Diego outfield while Jackson Merrill (hamstring) is on the shelf. The Padres lack any other natural center fielders on the active roster, and Tirso Ornelas -- who's currently playing at Triple-A El Paso -- is the only other healthy option on the 40-man roster that might be viewed as a potential replacement option for Merrill. Lockridge has posted a modest .633 OPS over 21 plate appearances so far this season but he showcased excellent on-base skills (.410 OBP) and elite speed (46 steals in 52 attempts) between his two Triple-A stops in 2024.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Double, stolen base off the bench

Lockridge went 1-for-1 with an RBI-double, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 5-0 win over Atlanta.

Lockridge entered as a pinch hitter for Jason Heyward in the sixth inning, drawing a walk versus lefty Jose Suarez. Lockridge would remain in the game to face right-hander Hector Neris in the eighth, where he roped an RBI-double before stealing third base and scoring on a Fernando Tatis single. The 28-year-old Lockridge still finds himself on the short side of a platoon, though he could soon see more playing time over Heyward, who's gone 0-for-10 to start the year. Lockridge would offer some upside in the Padres' lineup thanks to his base-stealing ability -- he swiped 46 bags in the minors last season.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Slated for short-side platoon in LF

Lockridge is expected to open the season on the short side of a platoon in left field with Jason Heyward, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

The speedy Lockridge won a spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster after hitting .364 with seven stolen bases during Cactus League play. His stolen-base potential could make him relevant in fantasy leagues if he ever receives enough starts, but for now, Lockridge's playing time projects to be limited.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Running wild this spring

Lockridge went 1-for-2 with a run, a stolen base and a caught stealing Thursday in a Cactus League loss to Kansas City.

Lockridge has performed well through 13 spring contests, posting a .370/.414/.519 slash line with two doubles, a triple, four runs, one RBI and five stolen bases. The theft total is tied for second among all players this spring and highlights Lockridge's biggest strength -- he stole 48 bases in 54 attempts at Triple-A last season. Lockridge is competing for one of San Diego's final roster spots for position players, though the impressive play of Gavin Sheets (five homers, 11 RBI) and Tirso Ornelas (.324 BA, 6:3 BB:K) has created a tight competition.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Hits first big-league homer

Lockridge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

This was the second hit and first homer of Lockridge's big-league career. He has mainly seen time off the bench since he was called up from Triple-A El Paso on Sept. 11. The 27-year-old is 2-for-9 with two stolen bases and four runs scored over 11 contests.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Up from Triple-A

The Padres recalled Lockridge from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Ten days after earning a spot on the Padres' 40-man, Lockridge will now join the big club, replacing Luis Campusano on the active roster. Lockridge has slashed .328/.431/.426 with 13 RBI across 144 plate appearances with El Paso since joining the organization ahead of the trade deadline, and he'll be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Added to 40-man roster

The Padres selected Lockridge to the 40-man roster and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

The right-hander was acquired from the Yankees ahead of the summer trade deadline and is now positioned to make his MLB debut during the final month of the campaign. Lockridge has an .811 OPS with nine home runs in 25 games for El Paso since being acquired by the Padres.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Moved to San Diego

The Padres acquired Lockridge from the Yankees on Tuesday in exchange for reliever Enyel De Los Santos and minor-league Thomas Balboni.

Lockridge was a fifth-pick in the 2018 First-Year Player Draft and is hitting .295 with 34 stolen bases in 72 games at the Triple-A level this season. The 27-year-old doesn't offer much power, as he has no homers and just 17 extra-base hits.
