  • Guardians' Peter Strzelecki: Acquired by Cleveland

The Guardians acquired Strzelecki from the Diamondbacks on Thursday for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Columbus.

Strzelecki had been designated for assignment by Arizona and has now found a new home. The reliever will head to Columbus for now but should be an option for Cleveland's bullpen eventually.

  • Diamondbacks' Peter Strzelecki: Booted off 40-man roster

The Diamondbacks designated Strzelecki for assignment Monday.

A trade-deadline pickup from the Brewers last August, Strzelecki made only one appearance for Arizona after he struggled to an 8.76 ERA and 2.31 WHIP over his 12.1 innings at Triple-A Reno following the deal. Strzelecki will be ticketed for a relief role at Reno to begin the 2024 campaign, but he'll first have to pass through waivers after Arizona moved him off the 40-man roster Monday.

  • Diamondbacks' Peter Strzelecki: Optioned to minor-league camp

Strzelecki was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Sunday.

The right-hander was acquired by the Diamondbacks from the Brewers at the deadline last summer but made just one big-league appearance after the trade. Strzelecki had a decent 4.38 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB over 37 frames in the majors, but he struggled at Triple-A Reno with 12 earned runs allowed in 13 outings.

  • Diamondbacks' Peter Strzelecki: Sent down following twin bill

Strzelecki was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Strzelecki served as the 27th man during Saturday's doubleheader against the Padres and allowed a hit and two walks during 1.1 scoreless relief innings. He'll head back to the minors but could rejoin the Diamondbacks at some point if they need additional bullpen help.

  • Diamondbacks' Peter Strzelecki: Promoted as 27th man

The Diamondbacks recalled Strzelecki from Triple-A Reno ahead of Saturday's doubleheader with the Padres, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Since being traded from Milwaukee in exchange for Andrew Chafin ahead of the deadline, Strzelecki has surrendered three runs in just 4.1 innings with Triple-A Reno. He'll now join the D-backs' bullpen for the first time to provide extra depth for Saturday's twin bill, but there's no guarantee Arizona uses him based on his recent struggles.

  • Diamondbacks' Peter Strzelecki: Dealt to Arizona

Strzelecki was traded from the Brewers to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday in exchange for Andrew Chafin, John Gamdaboro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix reports.

Strzelecki has a 3.69 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 70.2 career MLB innings, but he has split time between the majors and Triple-A each of the last two seasons. Strzelecki will be optioned to Triple-A Reno, per Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com, but he could come back to work in the middle innings for Arizona later this season.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Returns to majors

The Brewers recalled Stzelecki from Triple-A Nashville on Sunday.

Strzelecki had been a key setup man for Milwaukee through the first two months of the season, but he failed to record a hold or save and turned in a 5.73 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in his final 10 appearances for the Brewers before being optioned to Nashville on June 28. He allowed earned runs in each of his three appearances upon being demoted to Triple-A but had been sharp of late, allowing one unearned run on one hit and no walks while striking out six over four innings in his most recent four outings. It's unclear if the Brewers plan to immediately incorporate Strzelecki as part of the bridge to closer Devin Williams or if he'll first have to work in lower-leverage spots before working his way up the bullpen pecking order.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Optioned to Triple-A level

Milwaukee optioned Strzelecki to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Thomas Pannone has been selected from Nashville in a corresponding move. Strzelecki, 28, carries a 4.54 ERA and 37:8 K:BB in 35.2 innings of work this season at the big-league level and should get another chance soon enough.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Takes fifth loss

Strzelecki (3-5) blew the save and took the loss in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Orioles. He allowed three runs on three hits while striking out three over one inning.

He was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the eighth inning but served up a two-run shot to Gunnar Henderson. Strzelecki hadn't allowed a run in six of his previous seven outings, and his ERA now stands at 4.40 despite a solid 1.12 WHIP and 29:6 K:BB in 28.2 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander has a team-leading and career-high 14 holds and should continue to operate as Milwaukee's primary setup option in front of Devin Williams.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Tallies 10th hold

Strzelecki tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up his 10th hold of the season in Tuesday's victory over the Cardinals.

Strzelecki allowed three runners to reach base, but he also kept the opponent off the scoreboard for the 17th time in 20 appearances this season. Save for an outing in early May in which he allowed five earned runs, Strzelecki has been outstanding out of the Brewers' bullpen, and he will continue holding down the setup role in front of closer Devin Williams.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Summoned in setup spot

Strzelecki tossed a clean eighth inning and picked up his third hold of the season in Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Padres.

With the Brewers looking to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, Strzelecki was summoned from the bullpen rather than Matt Bush, who opened the season in the setup role but has not been particularly effective. Strzelecki came through in a big way, retiring all three batters he faced and notching his seventh scoreless appearance of the season. There has not been an official changing of the guard in front of closer Devin Williams, but given how Strzelecki and Bush have fared early on, there is a chance that could occur.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Off to strong start

Strzelecki tossed 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up his second hold of the season in Thursday's victory over the Padres.

Strzelecki became a reliable reliever for the Brewers last season, and he has been all that and more early on in the 2023 campaign, firing 6.1 scoreless frames over six appearances while allowing just five runners to reach base. He currently slots in as the third option in the Brewers' bullpen behind closer Devin Williams and setup man Matt Bush, but Bush has not been particularly sharp since joining the Brewers last August, so it's possible Strzelecki could move up a peg in the pecking order.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Secures roster spot

Strzelecki, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, secured a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster.

Strzelecki was not particularly sharp during spring training, but the 2.83 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 40:15 K:BB he posted over 35.0 innings out of Milwaukee's bullpen in 2022 helped him break camp with the big club for the first time in his career. Roles are up for grabs in the Brewers' bullpen behind closer Devin Williams, and Strzelecki will have a chance to be part of the late-inning mix.

  • Brewers' Peter Strzelecki: Earns first career save

Strzelecki picked up the save with a clean inning in Tuesday's 3-0 victory over the Diamondbacks. He did not record a strikeout.

Strzelecki entered the game in the ninth inning with a 3-0 lead and set Arizona down in order to earn the first save of his career. The save opportunity was likely a product of the Brewers being out of playoff contention and manager Craig Counsell opting to give some of the younger players a look. Over 35 innings this season, Strzelecki went 2-1 with one save and four holds with 40 strikeouts.
