Mets' Jared Young: Losing out on starts vs. RHPs
Young is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.
Young is hitting just .174 over 11 games since getting called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 24, though three of his four hits have gone for extra bases. Even so, the Mets don't appear motivated to deploy the left-handed-hitting Young in the strong side of a platoon at designated hitter. Young will hit the bench Thursday for the third time in five matchups against a right-handed starting pitcher (Mike Soroka) while the Mets go with Starling Marte at DH.

Mets' Jared Young: Restores lead with homer
Young went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Rockies.
Young regained the lead for the Mets with his fifth-inning homer. The 29-year-old is hitting just .200 (4-for-20) across 10 games this season, but three of those hits have gone for extra bases (two homers, one double). He continues to fill a part-time role at designated hitter while the Mets are without Jesse Winker (oblique) and Mark Vientos (hamstring).

Mets' Jared Young: Sitting against righty
Young is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.
Young had started in each of the Mets' previous three matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he'll hit the bench against righty Landon Knack while Starling Marte replaces him at designated hitter. Since getting called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 24, Young is batting .167 with two extra-base hits and a 35 percent strikeout rate. He could be at risk of a demotion if he's unable to turn things around quickly.

Mets' Jared Young: Slugs first homer of year
Young went 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the White Sox.
The 29-year-old launched the second of two first-inning homers by the Mets off Jonathan Cannon, after Pete Alonso had gotten the team on the board. Young collected his first hits and first long ball of the season in the process, as well as his first homer in the majors since September 2023. He's started four straight games at DH since being called up Saturday, although in every contest he was pinch hit for against a left-handed pitcher. With Jesse Winker (oblique) not expected back until mid-June at the earliest, Young should maintain his strong-side platoon role for at least the next few weeks.

Mets' Jared Young: Receives call-up
The Mets recalled Young from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday.
Young has spent the entire 2025 campaign in the minors, slashing .256/.371/.500 with five homers, 21 RBI and 15 runs scored across 97 Triple-A plate appearances. Now with the Mets, he'll supply the big club with a bench piece capable of playing in the infield and outfield. Jose Azocar was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Mets' Jared Young: Goes on minor-league IL
Triple-A Syracuse placed Young on its 7-day injured list Thursday due to an unspecified issue.
Young wasn't known to be dealing with an injury when the Mets optioned him to minor-league camp March 9, but the 29-year-old first baseman looks like he'll have to wait a bit to make his Syracuse debut while he tends to an undisclosed issue. After being granted his release from the Cardinals organization in the middle of the 2024 season, Young finished out the campaign in the Korea Baseball Organization with the Doosan Bears, producing a 1.080 OPS over 169 plate appearances.

Mets' Jared Young: Sent out of MLB camp
The Mets optioned Young to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
Young joined the Mets on a big-league deal over the winter after he split the 2024 season between Triple-A Memphis in the Cardinals organization and the Korea Baseball Organization's Doosan Bears. Though Young produced at a high level with both clubs, he struggled in his brief exposure to MLB pitching during his time with the Cubs in 2022 and 2023, slashing .210/.290/.435 with a 29 percent strikeout rate over 69 plate appearances. The 29-year-old has some experience in the corner outfield and at third base, but since he profiles best defensively at first base, he may not be in line for much action with the Mets unless Pete Alonso misses time with an injury.

Mets' Jared Young: Nets MLB deal from Mets
The Mets signed Young to a one-year contract Monday.
Young split the 2024 season between Triple-A Memphis in the Cardinals organization and with the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization, posting a .917 OPS at the former and a 1.080 OPS at the latter. The Mets have very little in the way of depth at first base right now, but Young is nonetheless likely to begin 2025 at Triple-A Syracuse.

Jared Young: Headed to Korea
The Cardinals transferred Young to the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization in exchange for cash considerations.
Young was removed from St. Louis' 40-man roster just before Opening Day and is now headed overseas to continue his career. The 29-year-old had spent the entire 2024 season at Triple-A Memphis, with whom he slashed .285/.411/.506 with 11 home runs over 74 games.

Cardinals' Jared Young: Outrighted to Triple-A
The Cardinals outrighted Young to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday after he cleared waivers, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
The Cardinals needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Victor Scott. Young will remain in the organization and should see semi-regular playing time in the corner infield and outfield spots at Memphis.

Cardinals' Jared Young: Optioned to Memphis
The Cardinals optioned Young to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.
Young has slashed .210/.290/.435 across 69 plate appearances in his MLB career, but a .353 OPS during spring training will send him back to the minors for the start of the season. Young found plenty of success with the Cubs' Triple-A affiliate last season, and a return to form at the plate could help him reach the majors again during his first season with the Cardinals.

Cardinals' Jared Young: Not doing enough to win roster spot
Young has gone 2-for-31 (.065) over 15 Grapefruit League games.
Young provides organizational depth at the corner infield and corner outfield spots, but he's yet to get in a groove during spring training. The 28-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Cubs in November. Young's poor hitting in spring will likely mean he begins the year in the minors.

Cardinals' Jared Young: Claimed by St. Louis
The Cardinals claimed Young off waivers from the Cubs on Monday.
The Cubs had removed Young from their 40-man roster last week and he'll now join one of their division rivals. The 28-year-old turned in a .310/.417/.577 batting line with 21 home runs over 90 games this season at Triple-A Iowa. He's slashed .210/.290/.435 across 22 contests at the major-league level and can handle the corner infield and outfield spots.

Cubs' Jared Young: Sent outright to Triple-A
The Cubs outrighted Young to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Young posted a .310/.417/.577 batting line with 21 home runs over 90 games this season at the Triple-A level, but he couldn't quite replicate those numbers in the bigs with a .720 OPS in 16 contests. The 28-year-old is now off the 40-man roster in Chicago.

Cubs' Jared Young: Recalled, starting Sunday
Young was recalled from the Arizona Complex League and is starting at first base Sunday against the Brewers.
The 28-year-old was just demoted Wednesday but will quickly rejoin the big club with Nico Hoerner (knee) ending the season on the injured list. Young has played in 15 major-league games this season and has a .792 OPS with two homers, two steals and eight RBI in 43 plate appearances.

Cubs' Jared Young: Returns to minors
Young was optioned to the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The 28-year-old was called up from Iowa on Sept. 19 and appeared in two games during his week in the big leagues, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three RBI. Young has a .792 OPS in 43 MLB plate appearances this season but was unable to keep his spot on the roster with Jeimer Candelario (back) returning from the injured list.

Cubs' Jared Young: Homers in win Friday
Young went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's win over the Rockies.
Making his first start for the Cubs since July, Young delivered a critical home run to help the team in its pursuit of a playoff spot. The 28-year-old has only appeared in 15 contests this year and has provided two long balls along with eight RBI. Young remains off the fantasy radar, though he may see another start or two down the stretch depending on matchups, as he does offer the lineup an additional left-handed bat.
