  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Outrighted to Triple-A

Uelmen (forearm) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.

Uelmen remains in the organization but is no longer on the Phillies' 40-man roster. He missed a large chunk of 2023 with a flexor strain and it's unclear what his current health situation is.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Recalled, placed on 60-day IL

The Phillies recalled Uelmen from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a right flexor strain.

Uelman spent most of the season in Triple-A, though an undisclosed injury caused him to miss roughly three months. He was able to appear in one last game before the end of Lehigh Valley's season, but he'll now sacrifice his 40-man roster spot as he lands back on the 60-day IL. Michael Plassmeyer was selected from Triple-A in a corresponding move and will start the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader with the Mets.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Finishes season healthy at Triple-A

Uelmen (undisclosed) was reinstated from Triple-A Lehigh Valley's 60-day injured list and made his final appearance of the season Sept. 19, striking out three while allowing one run on two hits and one walk over one inning.

Uelmen had been stuck on Lehigh Valley's IL since early June with the unspecified injury, but after completing a rehab assignment earlier this month, he received the green light to return to the Triple-A bullpen for the final week of the season. Though Lehigh Valley's season is over, Uelmen retains a spot on the Phillies' 40-man roster and could theoretically get called up to the big club over the final week of the season if Philadelphia has a need for an extra relief arm.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: On mend from injury

Uelman, who remains on Triple-A Lehigh Valley's 60-day injured list with an undisclosed injury, began a rehab assignment at Single-A Clearwater on Thursday.

Uelman gave up an earned run on one hit while striking out a batter in one inning Thursday in his first game action at any level since June 4. The 27-year-old right-hander retains a spot on the Phillies' 40-man roster, but his long-term absence due to the unspecified injury presumably takes him out of consideration for a late-season promotion to the big club once he's fully health again.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Sent back to Triple-A

Uelmen was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Uelmen joined the big-league roster Tuesday but spent less than a week with the team, exiting after making just one appearance. That outing didn't go well, as he allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out one in an inning of work against the Cubs on Saturday. Yunior Marte was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Recalled to bullpen

The Phillies recalled Uelmen from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

This is the first call-up of the year for Uelmen, who was sporting a 1.04 ERA through 8.2 innings of relief this season at the Triple-A level. The 26-year-old right-hander will be available out of Philly's bullpen Tuesday night against the Giants.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Opening season in minors

The Phillies optioned Uelmen to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.

With Philadelphia sending out Uelman, Luis Ortiz and Michael Plassmeyer to the minors, Andrew Vasquez appears to have claimed the final opening in the team's Opening Day bullpen. Uelman, 26, made 25 relief appearances at the big-league level for the Cubs in 2022, logging a 4.67 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 27 frames.

  • Phillies' Erich Uelmen: Dealt to Phillies

The Phillies acquired Uelmen from the Cubs on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.

Uelmen appeared in 25 games with the Cubs last season, producing a 4.67 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over 27 innings. The 26-year-old will provide the Phillies with another right-handed option in their bullpen ahead of Craig Kimbrel, who will likely get the first shot at being the team's closer in 2023. In order to make space on the 40-man roster for Uelmen, Vinny Nittoli was designated for assignment Wednesday.

  • Cubs' Erich Uelmen: Escapes with save

Uelman allowed a hit and two walks in a scoreless inning against the Pirates on Friday. He struck out one and earned a save.

Uelman got his first save opportunity since blowing a chance against the Nationals on Aug. 17. He loaded the bases with two outs but ended the threat by striking out Cal Mitchell. After giving up eight runs in a four-game span, Uelman has now turned in four straight scoreless appearances. Brandon Hughes (ankle), Mark Leiter and Rowan Wick did not pitch Friday, and Uelman shouldn't be expected to see many more save chances down the stretch.

  • Cubs' Erich Uelmen: Strikes out four Sunday

Uelmen tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Sunday's loss to the Rockies. He allowed two hits and struck out four.

Uelmen, who made his MLB debut back in July, set a new career high with the four strikeouts. The righty has exclusively pitched in relief for the Cubs, and he now has a 4.98 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across 21.2 innings. The 26-year-old could be in the mix for an Opening Day bullpen role in 2023 if he impresses in the last few weeks of this season, though his fantasy value seems limited at this point.

  • Cubs' Erich Uelmen: Gets first MLB call-up

The Cubs selected Uelmen's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Chicago designated reliever Daniel Norris for assignment to clear space on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster for Uelmen, a 2017 fourth-round draft pick who will reach the majors for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old right-hander turned in a 2.79 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 52:23 K:BB across 42 innings with Iowa this season.
