Ober was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul by the Twins on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Ober made three appearances in the Grapefruit League, and he didn't allow a run while forging a 6:2 K:BB and 0.33 WHIP. The right-hander was not going to be a part of Minnesota's rotation, so he'll head to Triple-A to receive regular innings. Ober very likely makes starts for the Twins before the end of the year, and he will be worth a streaming look based on his success in 2022.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Bailey Ober: Second strong outing
Ober threw two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in Wednesday's spring training win over Toronto. Ober has averaged more than 93 mph with his fastball in both spring starts after averaging 91.5 mph during the 2022 regular season, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Ober has thrown three scoreless innings with five strikeouts and a walk in two spring starts. Ober is challenging for a spot in the rotation, but he's likely the sixth starter at the moment and thus could begin the season in the minors. It's also possible the Twins could opt for a six-man rotation as Kenta Maeda (elbow) works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Ober will make the decision difficult if he continues to pitch this well during spring training.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Could begin season in minors
Ober could begin the season at Triple-A St. Paul following the Twins' addition of Pablo Lopez, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. It's also possible the Twins could opt for a six-man rotation, something which might appeal to them as Kenta Maeda (elbow) works his way back from Tommy John surgery. Ober hasn't been a bastion of health himself but has pitched well when on the mound, including last season when he held a 3.21 ERA over 11 starts for Minnesota.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: One mistake in final start
Ober did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over five innings against the White Sox. He struck out four. Ober allowed just two hits on the night, but they were timely as they both came in the second inning, including a two-run home run off the bat of Josh Harrison. In four starts since returning from the injured list Sept. 16, Ober earned a 2.04 ERA over 22.1 innings, finishing the campaign on a high note. In 56 innings on the season, the 27-year old went 2-3 with a 3.21 ERA.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Electric versus White Sox
Ober (2-3) got the win after he tossed 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters Tuesday against the White Sox. Ober was in full command Tuesday, registering a season-high 10 punchouts while blanking the White Sox over 7.1 frames. The right-hander has now allowed three runs over 12.1 innings while striking out 13 batters over two starts since returning from the 15-day injured list Sept. 16. He now owns a 3.18 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 47 punchouts over 51 frames in 10 starts this season. Ober is tentatively set to pitch Sunday versus the Tigers, which would be his final outing of the 2022 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Sleeper pitchers for Week 26 (Sept. 26-Oct. 5)
Ober may be only a five-inning pitcher, but he's one with good enough bat-missing skills to keep the damage to a minimum. You'll want to limit your expectations for him, but if you're looking to maximize volume, he should perform well enough against the White Sox and Tigers.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Allows three in defeat
Ober (1-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings against the Royals. He struck out three. Ober allowed two runs in the first inning, a leadoff home run from MJ Melendez and an RBI double from Salvador Perez. This was just the second start since June 1 for the righty as he missed over three months with a groin injury. The 27-year-old has been better in five road starts this season with a 3.00 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 27 innings compared to a 4.86 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 16.2 innings at home.... See More ... Twins' Bailey Ober: Five scoreless frames in return
Ober allowed one hit and one walk over five shutout innings against Cleveland on Friday. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision. Ober was in line for the victory before Cleveland mounted a late comeback to steal the win. The 27-year-old righty was making his first start June 1 after a lengthy stay on the injured list while dealing with a groin issue, and he turned in his first scoreless outing since firing six shutout frames April 17. Ober is now sporting a 3.49 ERA with a 34:8 K:BB through eight starts this season. He's lined up to start in Kansas City next week.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Activated prior to start
Ober (groin) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list prior to Friday's start against the Guardians, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Ober has been on the injured list since early June due to a groin strain, but he recently completed a three-game rehab assignment in which he allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 12 in 11.2 innings. The right-hander has made seven starts for the Twins this year and posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 33.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Activation coming Friday
Ober (groin) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday against the Guardians, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Ober has been sidelined by a strained groin since the start of June, but he's ready to rejoin Minnesota's rotation after a three-game rehab assignment. The 27-year-old has a 4.01 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB across 33.2 innings this year, and he could face some workload limitations in his first start back from the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Rehab moved to Triple-A
Ober (groin) will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul and make his third rehab start Sunday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Ober has made two starts in Single-A Fort Myers and put up a 1.29 ERA and 0.71 WHIP over seven innings with six strikeouts. He will be limited to about 80 pitches in Sunday's outing and should be able to rejoin the Twins within the next week or two.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Making second rehab start
Ober (groin) is scheduled to make his second rehab start Tuesday with Single-A Fort Myers, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. Ober joined the affiliate last week for his first game action in three months and looked good over his three-inning outing, striking out three while allowing one run on three hits. The 42-pitch appearance suggests that Ober will be built up as a starter during his rehab program, so he'll likely require at least one or two additional outings beyond Tuesday before the Twins bring him back from the 60-day injured list. Before being shut down with an aponeurotic plate injury, Ober made seven starts for Minnesota and produced a 4.01 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB across 33.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Headed for rehab stint
Ober (groin) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Fort Myers on Thursday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Ober tossed live batting practice without issue Monday and will now progress to the next phase of his rehab. Park notes that due to his extended stay on the injured list, Ober won't be stretched back out to a starting role but instead could be used in long relief once activated.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Facing hitters again
Ober (groin) was scheduled to face hitters in a live batting practice session Monday, MLB.com reports. The live session represents a step forward in the rehab process for Ober, who has been throwing full-effort bullpen sessions featuring all of his pitches over the past couple of weeks. The Twins remain optimistic that Ober will be able to return from the 60-day injured list at some point in September, but it's unclear if he'll have enough time to properly build up for a starting role with the big club. Given that he's been sidelined since June 1 with the right groin strain, Ober will likely need to make multiple minor-league rehab appearances prior to being activated.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Throws another bullpen session
Ober (groin) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Friday and is expected to throw another one Tuesday, MLB.com reports. He reported no issues after the session. Ober has been out since early June with an aponeurotic plate injury, which he described as a tendon pulling on his pelvic bone. The Twins have said Ober is aiming for a return in September.... Twins' Bailey Ober: Throws bullpen session
Ober (groin) threw a 20-pitch bullpen on Tuesday in Fort Myers, Fla., with no issues, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Ober has been out since early June with an aponeurotic plate injury, which he described as a tendon pulling on his pelvic bone. This is his first significant sign of progress since June. The Twins have said Ober is aiming for a return in September.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Ready to throw off mound
Ober (groin) will begin a bullpen progression Tuesday in Fort Myers, Fla., in hopes of a September return, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Ober has been out since early June with an aponeurotic plate injury, which he described as a tendon pulling on his pelvic bone. Because of the time he missed in addition to the fact that the Twins still want him to get stretched out for starting duty, Ober is likely at least three weeks away from coming off the 60-day injured list.... Twins' Bailey Ober: Slow progress
Ober (groin) will play catch this week and hopes to throw off a mound "soon," manager Rocco Baldelli told the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. It doesn't sound like Ober has made much progress in the past month as there was a similar report in late June that indicated he was close to a bullpen session. He's been out eight weeks with an aponeurotic plate injury, which he described as a tendon pulling on his pelvic bone. There seems a decent chance he could be shut down for the season if he's not soon cleared to throw off a mound.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Bailey Ober: Starts playing catch
Ober (groin) has started playing catch and said he's hopeful to return to the mound and throw a bullpen by the end of this week, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Ober has an aponeurotic plate injury, which he described as a tendon pulling on his pelvic bone, the Star Tribune adds. Ober could make the first of likely several rehab starts next week.... Twins' Bailey Ober: Heading back to injured list
Ober will be placed on the 15-day injured list with a right groin injury Monday, Megan Ryan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Ober was sidelined with a right groin strain earlier in the season, and while the extent of his current injury isn't yet clear, he'll at least be forced to miss a few turns through the rotation. The right-hander gave up eight runs in nine innings over his last two starts, and it's possible that his injury contributed to his struggles. Cole Sands is a strong candidate to take Ober's place in the starting rotation.... See More ... See Less
