Crochet (2-1) yielded one run on a hit and a walk over 7.1 innings Sunday, striking out 11 and earning a win over the White Sox. Crochet was nearly untouchable Sunday; he was perfect through five innings and carried a no-hitter into the eighth. He was removed from the game after Chase Meidroth broke it up with a single and later came around to score with Garrett Whitlock on the mound. Crochet generated a season-high 18 whiffs, including 11 with his four-seamer that averaged 95.8 mph. He dropped his ERA to 1.38 with a 28:8 K:BB through 26 frames. Crochet's next outing is projected to be a rematch with the White Sox at home.... See More ... See Less

Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Walks four in loss
Crochet (1-1) yielded four runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks over 5.2 innings Tuesday, striking out five and taking a loss against Toronto. Crochet rolled through five scoreless frames before unraveling in the sixth inning. He coughed up a solo homer to George Springer before the Blue Jays scored three unearned runs in the inning. Crochet threw a career-high 107 pitches (65 strikes) and forced 11 whiffs. Despite the shaky performance, he owns a 1.45 ERA with a 17:7 K:BB through three starts. Crochet's next outing is projected to be on the road for his first career matchup against the White Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Dominant in eight scoreless innings
Crochet (1-0) earned the win after throwing eight scoreless innings on four hits and one walk Wednesday against Baltimore. He struck out eight. After throwing five solid innings in his Red Sox debut Opening Day against Texas, Crochet built on that showing Wednesday by spinning eight shutout frames and scattering four singles for a brilliant performance on the road. The hard-throwing southpaw has allowed just two runs to go with 12 punchouts over 13 innings so far this year. Crochet will look to keep the good times rolling in his next start, which is slated to come at home against Toronto early next week.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Inks six-year extension with Boston
Crochet agreed to a six-year, $170 million contract extension with the Red Sox on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Passan notes that this deal won't go into effect until the 2026 season and includes an opt-out clause following the 2030 campaign. Crochet is currently under contract on a one-year, $3.8 million agreement until the end of 2025 and made only one start with Boston before the two sides were able to come together on a long-term contract.... Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Fans four in team debut
Crochet didn't factor into the decision after giving up two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings Thursday against Texas. He struck out four. Making his Red Sox debut after being acquired from the White Sox during the offseason, the hard-throwing lefty fired five solid innings against a righty-dominant Rangers lineup. Boston didn't grab the lead until the ninth inning, keeping Crochet out of the win column Thursday. Crochet tentatively has another tough matchup against the Orioles on the road next week, and he'll be looking to further build on his early success with his new team after allowing a lone run with a whopping 30 punchouts in 15.2 innings during spring training.... Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Dominant third outing
Crochet allowed two hits and one walk while striking out seven over three scoreless innings in Wednesday's spring game against the Rays. Crochet cruised through his third Grapefruit League start and finished it in style by striking out the side in his third and final inning. The left-hander has not allowed a run over 6.1 spring innings while striking out 14.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: No runs in Grapefruit League debut
Crochet allowed no runs on three hits and one walk over 1.2 innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays. He struck out four. The left-hander was on a pitch count for his first spring game, with his departure in the midst of the second inning also being the result of a long wait between his first and second frames, per Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Crochet had a limited workload last year with the White Sox in his first season as a full-time starter, but he was still one of the top breakout players in MLB with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 209:33 K:BB across 146 innings. The 25-year-old isn't expected to face any workload restrictions in 2025 after being acquired by the Red Sox.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Settles with new club at $3.8M
The Red Sox and Crochet avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.8 million contract Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. There appears to be mutual interest between the Red Sox and Crochet in working out a long-term contract extension, but for now the two sides will settle for avoiding an arbitration hearing. Crochet put up a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 209:33 K:BB over 146 innings in 2024 with the White Sox in his first year as a full-time starter.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Another four-inning start
Crochet didn't factor into the decision Friday against Detroit, allowing four hits and a walk over four scoreless innings. He struck out six. Crochet's workload decreased dramatically down the stretch, though he was still impressive in limited work, allowing just one run over 12 innings in his final three outings. It was a breakthrough season overall for the left-hander, who proved to be one of the White Sox's few bright spots. Crochet will finish the year at 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 209:33 K:BB across 146 innings.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Lasts two innings Saturday
Crochet (6-11) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over two innings to take the loss versus the Red Sox on Saturday. Crochet's workload continues to drop as part of the White Sox's plan to trim his innings. He wasn't particularly good in this game either -- he needed 51 pitches to get through two frames, laboring through a four-run first inning by Boston. While he's maintained a 3.83 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 191:32 K:BB over 134 innings across 29 starts this season, his current workload all but guarantees he won't pitch deep enough to be eligible for wins unless he's ultra efficient. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Athletics, but Crochet has limited fantasy utility over the remainder of 2024.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Big strikeout numbers in loss
Crochet (6-10) allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight over 3.1 innings in a loss to the Mets on Sunday. Crochet struck out the first seven batters he faced and saw the minimum through three innings. Francisco Lindor opened up the fourth with a home run, and Crochet wasn't afforded the opportunity to finish the inning after allowing two more base hits and eventually being pulled with one out in the frame after throwing just 57 pitches. The hard-throwing lefty hasn't reached five innings in a start since June 30, but he now has 21 strikeouts over his last 11.1 frames. For the year, Crochet owns a 3.61 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 188:31 K:BB in 132 innings. He lines up to make his next start on the road against the Red Sox over the weekend.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Fans four in four-inning start
Crochet allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over four innings in a no-decision against San Francisco on Wednesday. White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore announced Wednesday that Crochet will be be on a workload limit for the rest of the campaign, so it's no surprise that he was pulled after four innings and 57 pitches. The left-hander may have gone a bit longer, though, if he hadn't faded in his final frame, allowing a pair of runs on three hits after beginning his outing with three scoreless, one-hit innings. Crochet managed a healthy 11 whiffs despite his low pitch count, and his four punchouts pushed him to 180 on the campaign. He still has a good chance to reach 200 strikeouts by the end of the season, but even that's not a given since Sizemore said Wednesday that Crochet's workload could "slowly decrease" as the season winds down.... White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Chased early in loss
Crochet (6-8) yielded five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk over three innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against Seattle. Crochet served up a two-run homer to Cal Raleigh in the first inning and never found his groove. Crochet was handed his second straight loss and has not earned a win since June 7. While he's reportedly still expected to receive a "normal workload," he's totaled just 13 innings through four starts this month. During that stretch, he's produced a 4.85 ERA while averaging just under 65 pitches per start. Crochet owns a 3.23 ERA with a terrific 160:26 K:BB through 114.1 innings this season. He's tentatively lined up to start in Minnesota next weekend, though the upcoming trade deadline could change those plans.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Goes four innings in loss
Crochet (6-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across four innings. He struck out seven. Crochet threw only 74 pitches Tuesday, a result of the White Sox monitoring his workload down the stretch of the 25-year-old's first season as a starter. Both runs attributed to Crochet came in the first inning, with Adolis Garcia plating Robbie Grossman on a single and Josh Smith stealing home during a double steal. Crochet hasn't gone deeper than four innings in his last three starts, and he's logged a 3.07 ERA with 157 strikeouts in 111.1 innings on the year. The left-hander is tentatively scheduled to face the Mariners on Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Lifted after two perfect frames
Crochet didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Pirates, striking out four in two perfect innings. White Sox manager Pedro Grifol had indicated Crochet would be on a pitch count for this outing, but the extremely quick hook kept the left-hander from putting together what might have been an exceptional performance -- he fired 22 of 28 pitches for strikes before exiting, including seven swinging strikes. Chicago is focused on Crochet's long-term health, or at least in keeping him healthy until the trade deadline, and the 25-year-old isn't expected to take the mound again until July 23 on the road against the Rangers.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Having workload monitored
Manager Pedro Grifol said Crochet will be on an unspecified pitch count Friday against the Pirates. Additionally, the left-hander will line up to work Chicago's fifth game after the All-Star break, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports. Crochet is nearly halfway through his first season as a starter and he's already thrown 105.1 innings, so the White Sox are taking steps to limit his workload. The 25-year-old's name has also been thrown around plenty in trade rumors, so it's not surprising to see the team take steps to ensure he remains healthy. Grifol didn't specify how long Crochet would be able to pitch Friday, or if the restrictions would continue. If he does end up being used as the team's fifth pitcher coming out of the All-Star break, he'd be on schedule to face the Rangers in Texas on 10 days rest.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Fans 11 in no-decision
Crochet came away with a no-decision in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies in 14 innings, striking out 11 over seven frames while allowing two earned runs on five hits and zero walks. After Crochet had thrown 85 and 91 pitches in his prior two starts, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Tuesday that the lefty's workload was "going to start dwindling" moving forward while the White Sox look to prioritize his long-term health. Even though he was mowing down the Colorado lineup for most of the afternoon, Crochet was still pulled after tossing 88 pitches and covering seven innings. If Crochet's pitch count continues to hover around the 85-to-90 range in his future starts, it could hurt his chances of coming away with wins, though he's notched only six wins through his first 18 starts while he's been supported by a weak White Sox lineup. Even so, Crochet remains a must-start fantasy option as long as he's active, as he's thus far provided elite ratios whenever he's taken the hill. The southpaw now owns a 3.02 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and a league-leading 141 strikeouts over 101.1 innings this season. He's tentatively scheduled for a road start in Miami next weekend.... See More ... White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Workload 'going to start dwindling'
White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said Tuesday of Crochet that "we're going to start dwindling his workload down a little bit," the Associated Press reports. Crochet already sits at 94.1 innings in 2024 in his first pro season as a starting pitcher. He threw zero innings in 2022 and just 25 frames in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and his highest innings total in college at Tennessee was 65. Therefore, his workload being curtailed at some point was inevitable. Grifol didn't divulge any specifics in regards to pitch counts or innings totals for Crochet, indicating he'll be flexible start-to-start based on how efficient the pitcher is. The manager also didn't mention anything about Crochet being shut down completely at some point, although it's certainly possible that will happen. It's not an ideal situation for fantasy managers, but those rostering Crochet will want to keep him in their lineups as long as he's making starts.... See More ... See Less -
White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Racks up 13 strikeouts Thursday
Crochet allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out 13 batters over seven innings in a no-decision against Seattle on Thursday. Crochet was absolutely dominant in the outing, inducing 24 swinging strikes and finishing with a career-high 13 punchouts. The only run against the southpaw came via Tyler Locklear's first career homer in the fifth inning, and Crochet was in line for the victory before Michael Kopech blew a save opportunity in the ninth. Despite a few rough starts in April, Crochet has been a revelation for the White Sox and for fantasy managers this season. Over his past nine starts, he's recorded a 1.36 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 76:11 K:BB over 53 innings. Crochet is tied with Tyler Glasnow for the major-league lead with 116 punchouts on the campaign.... White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Delivers another quality start
Crochet didn't factor into the decision in an extra-inning loss to the Brewers on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out eight. Crochet's now logged quality starts in five of his last six outings, posting a stellar 1.03 ERA in that span (35 innings). The 24-year-old left-hander continues to provide a bright spot on a rebuilding White Sox team -- Crochet's ERA is down to 3.49 on the year with a 0.93 WHIP and 93 strikeouts, good for second most in the league. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently slated for next week at home against Boston.... See More ... See Less
