  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Confirmed for Opening Day roster

Cowser was informed Sunday that he made the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

The writing was on the wall when Baltimore sent down Heston Kjerstad and Kyle Stowers on Friday, and Cowser's place on the big club has now been confirmed. Cowser hit just .115 over 26 games in his first taste of the big leagues last season, but he put on a show during spring training with a 1.174 OPS in 49 plate appearances. The 24-year-old isn't likely to open the campaign with a regular spot in the lineup, but he could certainly hit his way into more playing time.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Likely to make roster

Cowser is expected to make the Orioles' major-league roster after the team sent down Heston Kjerstad and Kyle Stowers on Friday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Cowser certainly earned the spot, slashing .325/.449/.725 through 16 Grapefruit League games. Even with that impressive sample, Cowser likely doesn't have a clear path to everyday at-bats to begin the season. He figures to be an extra outfielder, though if he can carry his spring hitting into the regular season, he could eventually force his way into a strong-side platoon job.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Frontrunner to land roster spot?

Cowser is "an (early) frontrunner" to make the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner said in an interview on 105.7 The Fan on Monday.

Cowser made some swing changes in order to be better against fastballs and has wowed so far this spring in going 4-for-11 with three home runs and three walks. The Orioles' starting outfield already appears set, but Cowser could play his way into being an active fourth outfielder. He had just a .434 OPS and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate over 77 plate appearances in the majors last season but collected a .937 OPS with 17 homers at Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Retools swing

Cowser retooled his swing in the offseason after a difficult 2023, Jon Meoli of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

That work has been noticed, drawing praise from manager Brandon Hyde early in spring training. Over his first five Grapefruit League games, Cowser has gone 3-for-8 with two home runs and five RBI. Cowser still has work to do to win a roster spot, but the early results are encouraging. He hit just .115 with a .434 OPS and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate over 77 plate appearances in the majors last year. Cowser is among a group of three to five players competing for a maximum of two bench spots in the Orioles' outfield.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Heads back to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Cowser to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Cowser was brought up from Triple-A when rosters expanded to 28 men Friday, but he'll head back down to the minors with the Orioles bringing Aaron Hicks (back) back from the 10-day injured list. The 23-year-old Cowser is slashing just .115/.286/.148 in the majors this season and likely would return to the Orioles only for depth purposes.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Recalled from Triple-A

Cowser was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Cowser is back with the big club as rosters expand. The top prospect really struggled in his initial go-round with the Orioles, managing a lowly .434 OPS over his first 77 plate appearances. It seems unlikely that he'll be given regular playing time in the final month.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Will be added when rosters expand

Cowser will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk when rosters expand Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Cowser was sent down earlier this month after posting just a .434 OPS over his first 77 plate appearances at the big-league level. While his future remains bright, he wouldn't appear to be in line for a ton of playing time down the stretch as the Orioles try to maintain their American League East lead.

  • Orioles' Colton Cowser: Returns to Triple-A

The Orioles optioned Cowser to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.

Cowser remains one of Baltimore's top prospects, but he posted only a .434 OPS over his first 77 plate appearances at the big-league level, so Baltimore decided to send him back to the minors to open up a roster spot for the returning Aaron Hicks. Cowser owns a .996 OPS at the Triple-A level this year, so if he can get back on track at the plate he could rejoin the Orioles before the campaign comes to a close.
