Urquidy will appear in Friday's game against the Mets, likely in a bulk-relief role, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Urquidy was claimed off waivers by the Phillies earlier Thursday and will be counted on to log some innings right away as Philadelphia tries to cover for the loss of Jesus Luzardo (shoulder). The 31-year-old Urquidy holds a 5.28 ERA and 21:7 K:BB across 29 innings covering one start and 10 relief appearances this season between the Pirates and White Sox.

The Phillies claimed Urquidy off waivers from the White Sox on Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Urquidy was DFA'd by the White Sox on Tuesday after turning in a 4.37 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 22.2 innings with the team. He won't be eligible to pitch in the postseason now that he's with the Phillies, but he could still make a handful of appearances with the big club during its final 10 regular-season games. Caleb Kilian (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

The right-hander was acquired from the Pirates at the trade deadline and pitched decently in six outings (one start) for Chicago, posting a 4.37 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 22.2 innings. However, Urquidy hasn't seen the mound since last Tuesday and has now lost his place on the 28-man and 40-man rosters. Noah Schultz was called up to round out the bullpen.

White Sox manager Will Venable said that Urquidy is available to pitch in bulk relief behind opener Bryan Hudson in Sunday's game against the Twins, Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Venable noted that every reliever except for Sean Newcomb will be available Sunday, so while Urquidy represents the best bet of the White Sox's bullpen arms to cover multiple innings in relief, the right-hander won't necessarily receive a starter's workload. Since getting called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Aug. 14, Urquidy has made five appearances (one start) for Chicago and has logged a 4.34 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB across 18.2 innings.

After the White Sox recalled him from Triple-A Charlotte on Aug. 14, Urquidy had been deployed as either a starter or bulk reliever in each of his four appearances, turning in a 4.58 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB in 17.2 innings. With Davis Martin returning from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, however, Urquidy looks set to work in a traditional relief role. He'll likely be used primarily in lower-leverage spots much like he was Thursday, when he came on to pitch the eighth inning while the White Sox trailed by four runs.

Urquidy did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Twins, allowing one run on three hits while striking out one over five innings of relief.
Urquidy inherited a 4-0 deficit in the fourth inning after Jordan Hicks and Tyler Gilbert handled the first three frames. He went on to finish out the contest while Luke Keaschall tagged him for his only run on a solo homer in the seventh. Across one start and three relief appearances since being recalled Aug. 14, Urquidy has allowed nine runs over 17.2 innings with a 14:4 K:BB. With Davis Martin back in the rotation, Chicago no longer requires both Urquidy and Erick Fedde in the mix, leaving Urquidy's role somewhat uncertain moving forward.
Urquidy (2-1) earned the loss after giving up five runs on six hits and four walks through three innings. He struck out two.
After throwing six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in his last outing Wednesday against the Cubs, Urquidy lasted just three innings Monday. The 31-year-old has made just three appearances in his short tenure with the White Sox, this being his first start. In those three games, Urquidy has posted a 5.68 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB over 12.2 innings. The right-hander is slated to make his next start Saturday against the Twins.

Making his White Sox debut after being called up from Triple-A Charlotte earlier in the day, Urquidy essentially ended up taking over the rotation spot that previously belonged to Noah Schultz, who was optioned to the minors Aug. 8. The White Sox recalled Urquidy from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Acquired from the Pirates last month, Urquidy will get his first call-up to Chicago after the White Sox placed Davis Martin (finger) on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Urquidy had been working as a full-time starter in the minors this season between the White Sox's and Pirates' Triple-A affiliates, pitching to a 3.48 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 79:20 K:BB in 95.2 innings. The 31-year-old righty will likely be called upon to pitch in bulk relief Friday in Detroit once opening pitcher Sean Newcomb exits the game.
The Pirates traded Urquidy traded to the White Sox in return for minor-league right-handed pitcher Felix Doroteo on Sunday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Urquidy was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Friday, and he has now quickly found a new home with the White Sox. The 31-year-old posted an inflated 8.53 ERA and 2.68 WHIP with six strikeouts over 6.1 innings in five appearances with the Pirates this season. Urquidy has had more success at the Triple-A level, registering a 3.53 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 77 punchouts over 18 starts with Triple-A Indianapolis. It's unclear if Urquidy will join Chicago's major-league roster or if he'll report to Triple-A Charlotte, but he is a member of the team's 40-man roster regardless.

Urquidy has been with Triple-A Indianapolis since April 17 after logging just five appearances with the big-league club. The 31-year-old started 17 games for Indianapolis, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 73:18 K:BB in 83.2 innings this season. Pittsburgh designated Urquidy in order to make room for Shawn Ross on the 40-man roster.
The Pirates optioned Urquidy to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
Urquidy has been knocked around in a middle relief role, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on 15 hits with a 6:2 K:BB across 6.1 innings. He could get stretched back out at Indianapolis as rotation depth. Cam Sanders was called up from Triple-A to take Urquidy's spot in the Pittsburgh bullpen.

It was a mixed performance for Urquidy, who built up to 61 pitches and also managed more strikeouts than walks in an outing for the first time in three appearances this spring. Urquidy signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Pirates on Thursday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Urquidy spent the majority of 2025 recovering from a Tommy John procedure he underwent in June 2024. He was able to make two appearances for the Tigers before the end of the regular season, during which he allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters in 2.1 innings. If he doesn't capture a spot in the Pirates' rotation during spring training, he could still slot in as a long-relief option.
