Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Another bullpen coming
Alcantara (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Alcantara threw off a mound Wednesday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last October and will toss another bullpen Saturday. The expectation remains that Alcantara won't pitch until 2025, but he's been progressing well.

Alcantara (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Alcantara began a throwing program back in March, but this will be his first time throwing off a mound since his October 2023 Tommy John surgery. He won't be back this season, but the Marlins anticipate the former Cy Young winner to be ready to roll heading into 2025.

Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Still limited to playing catch
Alcantara (elbow) was spotted playing catch in Oakland on Saturday during the Marlins' series versus the Athletics, MLB.com reports.
Alcantara has been able to play catch for about two months now and is presumably increasing the distance and frequency of his throwing, but the Marlins haven't indicated when he might be ready to toss bullpen sessions. Regardless, after he underwent Tommy John surgery on October 6, 2023, the Marlins aren't counting on Alcantara contributing at any point in 2024. The Marlins' focus remains on getting the 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner back to 100 percent for the start of spring training next year.

Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Plays catch Saturday
Alcantara (elbow) played catch Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Alcantara isn't a candidate to return during the 2024 season, but it is encouraging to see him throwing again just five months removed from his Tommy John procedure. The 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner will spend the year slowly rehabbing his elbow with the goal of returning for the start of the 2025 campaign.

Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Lands on 60-day IL
The Marlins placed Alcantara (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Alcantara underwent Tommy John surgery in October and is in line to miss the entire 2024 campaign. He will surrender his roster spot as he moves to the IL, creating room for Tim Anderson, who officially signed with Miami on Saturday.
