  • Padres' Nick Pivetta: Signs with San Diego

Pivetta signed a four-year, $55 million contract with the Padres on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Pivetta declined a $21.05 million qualifying offer from the Red Sox earlier in the offseason, opting to pursue a multi-year deal with a lower AAV instead. That is exactly what he'll get from the Padres, who gain a much-needed boost to their rotation depth. The 31-year-old righty turned in a 4.14 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 145.2 innings last season alongside a 172:36 K:BB. He's developed a reputation for living in the strike zone and thus racking up high strikeout totals, but he has yet to finish a season with a sub-4.00 ERA over his eight-year career.

  • Nick Pivetta: Rejects qualifying offer

Pivetta rejected the Red Sox' one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Pivetta being extended the qualifying offer was met with some initial surprise, but it quickly became clear that he was going to have a strong free-agent market and that's evident now that he's turning down a sizable one-year deal. The right-hander has never posted an ERA below 4.00 in his career, but Pivetta boasts a 30 percent strikeout rate and 7.3 percent walk rate over the last two seasons and is still relatively young, as he will turn 32 in February. If Pivetta signs elsewhere, the Red Sox will receive a draft pick.

  • Nick Pivetta: Gets qualifying offer from Boston

The Red Sox offered Pivetta a $21.05 million qualifying offer Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Pivetta spent some time on the 15-day IL early in the 2024 regular season due to a right elbow flexor strain. He was able to return in early May, and across 27 regular-season outings (26 starts), he went 6-12 with a 4.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 172:36 K:BB across 145.2 innings. Pivetta will have until Nov. 19 to accept the offer or enter the open market as a free agent.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Fans six in loss

Pivetta (6-12) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk over 6.2 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Rays.

Pivetta worked through six shutout frames before the Rays broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the seventh inning. He delivered three quality starts in five outings this month, posting a strong 2.54 ERA during that span. Pivetta forced 15 swinging strikes Friday, the most he's recorded since July 10. He finishes the 2024 campaign with a 4.14 ERA and an impressive 172:36 K:BB through 145.2 innings.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Fans four in victory

Pivetta (6-11) picked up the win against the Twins in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, allowing one run (zero earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out four in five innings.

Outside of a third-inning error that allowed one run to cross, Pivetta shut down the Twins to pick up his first win since July 29. Pivetta allowed at least one baserunner in all five innings he pitched, but he was able to minimize the damage despite a subpar 4:3 K:BB. The 31-year-old Pivetta has posted a respectable 4.21 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 166:35 K:BB in 139 innings this season. He is scheduled to wrap up his 2024 campaign next weekend against Tampa Bay.
