  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Strong start goes to waste

Pivetta allowed two hits and a walk while striking out eight over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.

Pivetta posted a scoreless outing for the fourth time this year, including twice over three starts in July. While he was able to keep the Dodgers at bay, Zack Kelly and Brennan Bernardino combined to unravel in the eighth inning, culminating in a game-deciding grand slam from Freddie Freeman. Pivetta's winless stretch is now at five starts, and he remains at 4-6 on the year despite a solid 3.87 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 96:21 K:BB through 81.1 innings over 15 starts. The right-hander is projected for a difficult road start at Colorado in his next outing.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Fans 10 in Wednesday's loss

Pivetta (4-6) took the loss Wednesday as the Red Sox fell 5-2 to the A's, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out 10.

The 10 Ks tied his season high, a mark he originally set in his first start of the year March 29 against Seattle, and which he matched in his last outing July 4 in Miami. Pivetta has fanned at least nine batters in four of his last eight starts, posting a 4.17 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 55:15 K:BB through 45.1 innings over that stretch. He'll try not to cool off during his time off, as Pivetta isn't scheduled to take the mound again before the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Let down by 'pen in dominant outing

Pivetta struck out 10 batters while allowing one hit and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against Miami on Thursday.

Pivetta was downright dominant Thursday, racking up 15 swinging strikes en route to his second double-digit punchout performance of the campaign. He held the Marlins hitless until Jesus Sanchez tripled against him in the seventh inning, and the right-hander departed in line for a victory with a 2-0 lead. However, Boston's bullpen eliminated Pivetta's chance for the win by giving up two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Nonetheless, the performance was an excellent bounce-back for Pivetta after he had posted a 6.98 ERA and 1.81 WHIP across his previous four starts.

  • Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Stunned by San Diego

Pivetta (4-5) took the loss Friday, coughing up five runs on seven hits and a walk over four-plus innings in a 9-2 loss to the Padres. He struck out four.

The right-hander was cruising through four innings, but San Diego erupted for all nine of its runs in the fifth before Boston's pitching staff was able to secure an out. Pivetta served up a two-run homer to Kyle Higashioka to begin that offensive outburst. He's now been taken deep five times over his last three starts, stumbling to a 6.46 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over that stretch despite a 13:3 K:BB in 15.1 innings. Pivetta will try to keep the ball in the park in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Miami.
