Athletics' Adam Kolarek: Mostly effective early
Kolarek, who fired two perfect innings during which he recorded a strikeout in a loss to the Guardians on Sunday, has now posted scoreless efforts in four of his six relief appearances.
The veteran southpaw has had one notable hiccup, that coming April 22 against the Rangers when he surrendered three earned runs on three hits and two walks over an inning. Otherwise, Kolarek has yielded just one other run across 7.2 innings, that coming in his first outing of the season April 12. Kolarek figures to continue serving in mostly a low-leverage role for the time being.

Athletics' Adam Kolarek: Figuring it out after tough start
Kolarek, who allowed six runs over his first three appearances, has now generated four consecutive scoreless outings after firing 1.1 perfect innings in a win over the Orioles on Saturday.
The veteran left-hander's Athletics tenure got off to a nightmarish start, but Kolarek's three scoreless frames over his subsequent four trips to the mound have lowered his ERA from 22.50 to 9.00. Kolarek's current form much more closely resembles his impressive career body of work, which consisted of an 11-3 mark, 3.32 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, four saves and 32 holds over 143 appearances coming into 2021.

Athletics' Adam Kolarek: Traded to Oakland
Kolarek was traded along with Cody Thomas from the Dodgers to the Athletics on Friday in a deal that sent Sheldon Neuse and Gus Varland the other way, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Kolarek was a late bloomer, but he's been a useful left-handed reliever in his four-year major-league career, posting a 3.32 ERA in 116.2 innings despite striking out just 16.8 percent of opposing batters. He recorded a stellar 0.95 ERA in 19.0 innings last season, though a .185 BABIP and a 95.6 percent strand rate suggest he got quite lucky. He'll be one of the top southpaws in Oakland's 'pen this season and could even find his way into a few saves should the team adopt a committee approach, though Jake Diekman is probably the top option when lefties are due up in the ninth inning for the opposition.

Dodgers' Adam Kolarek: Staying sharp during hiatus
Kolarek has been throwing a bullpen session "every third day or so" since the start of May, he stated in an interview with John Hartung of Spectrum SportsNet LA.
Kolarek is at home in Maryland for the time being, but he has been able to access a high school field with the help of a college teammate who is now a local coach. That has allowed the southpaw to maintain a regular throwing schedule in order to build strength in anticipation of a possible return to action. Should a 2020 season take place, Kolarek may face a shift in his role as a new MLB rule is likely to prevent him from being used solely as a left-handed specialist.
