  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Not playing in Tokyo Series

Betts (illness) will not play in either of the Dodgers' matchups with the Cubs in the Tokyo Series, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Betts has been battling through fatigue as he deals with an illness, and manager Dave Roberts is "contemplating" sending him home early from the team's trip to Japan. The outfielder-turned-shortstop has been under the weather since arriving in Tokyo, and Roberts sees no reason to push Betts. The Dodgers will begin the 2025 season domestically at home on March 27 against the Tigers, and Betts will now likely shift his focus to making his season debut on that date.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Fatigued in workouts

Manager Dave Roberts said that Betts "showed some fatigue" during pre-game workouts for Sunday's exhibition against the Hanshin Tigers and later added, "We're really trying to mindful not just of Opening Day but not putting him in harm's way...not putting him in a position where he potentially could get hurt," Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Betts is scheduled to work out again Monday and be re-evaluated, and he may not be available for Tuesday's season opener against the Cubs in Tokyo unless he shows significant improvement. The 32-year-old has been battling an illness over the past week and lost some weight, so it could take a few days for him to regain the strength necessary to be cleared for game action.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Battling illness

Betts won't play in the Dodgers' exhibition games in Japan this weekend due to an illness, and he'll be re-evaluated Monday on his availability for Opening Day, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Manager Dave Roberts said that Betts has been dealing with the ailment since before the team traveled overseas and has lost some weight, so it sounds as though there's at least a small chance he's unable to play in Tuesday's season-opening matchup with the Cubs in Tokyo. Miguel Rojas and Tommy Edman are the likely replacements at shortstop should Betts be unable to take the field versus Chicago.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Drills first spring homer

Betts went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's Cactus League win over the Reds.

Betts went deep for the first time this spring with a 393-foot shot to left-center field in the third inning. He's seen more action than any of the Dodgers' projected regulars during the exhibition slate, which is likely a result of the team wanting him to get further acclimated to playing shortstop, where he's expected to spend most of his time this season. Over eight Cactus League contests, Betts is slashing .278/.333/.444, with Tuesday's homer being his first extra-base hit.
