  • Red Sox's Dominic Smith: On bench vs. lefty

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Smith started the first two games of the second half -- including Saturday against lefty Justin Wrobleski -- but the first baseman will sit Sunday as another lefty in James Paxton takes the mound. • Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Homers, drives in three

Smith went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI Sunday against the Royals. Smith's second-inning two-run blast off Brady Singer gave the Red Sox an early three-run lead. He then provided insurance with an RBI single in the seventh that turned out to provide the game-winning run. It was the third multi-hit game in a week for Smith, who has added five RBI over the past two games. However, his days as the regular starter at first base appear to be numbered as Triston Casas (ribs) is beginning to prepare for a rehab assignment and is hoping to return to the Red Sox lineup by the end of the month.

  • Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Knocks in two in win

Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 5-0 win over the Royals. Smith singled and scored in the second inning then plated two runs an inning later. He's batting just .226 since joining the Red Sox but has been better of late, going 11-for-38 (.289) over the last 13 games. Smith remains the primary first baseman, starting against righties, but his role should change soon after the All-Star break. Injured first baseman Triston Casas (ribs) has started to hit baseballs again and could return in the second half of the month.

  • Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Getting rest against lefty

Smith is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays. With southpaw Yusei Kikuchi taking the hill for Toronto, the lefty-hitting Smith will give way to Bobby Dalbec at first base. • Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Nabs first steal

Smith went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Yankees. The Red Sox stole a franchise-best nine bases in this contest, and even the not-so-speedy Smith got in on the fun. The first baseman hasn't done much in June, going 9-for-34 (.265) with two extra-base hits and seven walks over 12 contests. It's still an improvement on his .217/.323/.313 slash line through 133 plate appearances this season, and he's added just two home runs, 19 RBI, 12 runs scored and five doubles. Smith remains in a strong-side platoon role at first base, and that'll likely continue until Triston Casas (ribs) returns in July.

Smith went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one walk and one run scored in Thursday's 14-2 win over the White Sox. Smith has three multi-hit efforts over his last six contests since getting a rest day last Thursday. He's also picked up at least one RBI in five of those six games. The 28-year-old is up to a .232/.321/.343 slash line with two home runs, 18 RBI, nine runs scored and no stolen bases over 112 plate appearances since he signed with Boston following his release from Tampa Bay at the start of May. Smith has settled into a strong-side platoon role at first base.

  • Red Sox's Dominic Smith: Out against righty Wednesday

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays. Even with the Rays bringing a right-hander (Ryan Pepiot) to the hill, the lefty-hitting Smith will find himself on the bench in the series finale. Smith has mustered a lowly .460 OPS since signing with Boston earlier this month, and he looks like he could soon be in danger of losing out on a regular spot in the lineup if he doesn't show improvement.
