For the season, the right-hander has a 3.32 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB across 21.2 innings, though he's also given up five homers.

The star right-hander wasn't at his best Friday, giving up two solo home runs and failing to throw a clean inning. Through three starts (14.2 innings), deGrom has a 4.30 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB. The Rangers are being cautious with the oft-injured deGrom's workload to begin the season, and he'll be looking to reach the 90-pitch threshold for the first time this year in a home matchup against the Angels in the middle of next week.

DeGrom went into the start with a limit of around 75 pitches or five innings, which he nearly matched with his 73 pitches (49 strikes) across five frames. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that he expects deGrom to be limited to around 75 pitches or five innings in Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
In an effort to help deGrom stay healthy after he was limited to just nine starts over the last two seasons while recovering from his second Tommy John surgery, the Rangers brought him along slowly during spring training. He made just three spring appearances and built up to four innings and 70 pitches in his final outing, so deGrom will see only a slight increase in his projected workload in his season debut. While the potential five-inning limit caps deGrom's upside as a DFS option for Sunday, fantasy managers in redraft leagues will likely still want to keep the right-hander in their lineups.
