  • Dallas Keuchel: Parts ways with Texas

The Rangers released Keuchel on Sunday. His release became official shortly after the Rangers designated him for assignment earlier Sunday. Keuchel has now been cut three times this season after posting a collective 9.20 ERA and 2.06 WHIP in 60.2 innings across 14 starts with the White Sox, Diamondbacks and Rangers. At this stage of the season, the 34-year-old lefty is unlikely to catch on elsewhere, and he'll have to settle for a minor-league deal this offseason if he intends to keep his career going in 2023.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: DFA'd by Texas

Keuchel was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Sunday. Keuchel signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers in late July and was added to the big-league rotation a month later, and he surrendered 14 earned runs over 10 innings between his two starts. It's the same story with a different team for the veteran left-hander, who has also been DFA'd by the White Sox and Diamondbacks this season. Overall Keuchel has a 9.20 ERA, 2.06 WHIP and 45:31 K:BB across 14 starts this year, and he is unlikely to return to a big-league mound during the final month of the campaign.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: Crushed again

Keuchel (2-9) allowed seven runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.2 innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against Boston. Keuchel gave up just one run through three innings before the Red Sox tacked on three in the fourth and three more in the fifth. The veteran southpaw has been tagged with 14 runs through 10 innings since joining the Rangers, and his season ERA has jumped to 9.20 through 14 starts. He's projected to start in Houston next week, though it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: Getting another start

Keuchel is scheduled to start Thursday's series opener in Boston, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Keuchel's status as a two-time All-Star and former Cy Young Award winner may be the primary reason the 34-year-old southpaw is still receiving MLB starts at this stage of his career, as he's shown little over the past two years to suggests he's worthy of a spot in a big-league rotation. Between stops with the White Sox, Diamondbacks and Rangers this season, Keuchel has produced an 8.84 ERA and 2.05 WHIP across 13 starts spanning 56 innings. An ugly showing against the Red Sox might be enough for the Rangers to pull the plug on Keuchel and turn to another pitcher to eat innings at the back end of the rotation.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: Shelled in Texas debut

Keuchel (2-8) took the loss against Detroit on Saturday, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out one batter. After Keuchel was released by Arizona in July, Texas swooped in to sign the veteran hurler to a minor-league deal. The left-hander made his first start for his new club a month later, and the results were no better than his overall body of work this season. Keuchel fell behind by two runs in the first inning and was pulled in the sixth after having yielded seven earned runs -- the same amount he surrendered in his final start with Arizona. He has given up six or more earned runs in six of his 13 outings overall this season, so it's no surprise that his ERA is an unsightly 8.84. That's the worst mark of any major-league pitcher who has thrown at least 50 innings.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: Contract officially selected

Keuchel's contract was selected from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. Keuchel will make his Rangers debut as the starter for Saturday's game against the Tigers, marking the third team he's pitched for at the major-league level this season. Even if he makes at least one more turn through the rotation while Cole Ragans (calf) is sidelined, Keuchel has posted a lackluster 8.53 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 50.2 innings over 12 starts in the big leagues this year.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: Set to start Saturday

Keuchel will be called up to start Saturday against the Tigers. Keuchel has already been released by both the White Sox and the Diamondbacks this season, and it's not hard to see why. In 12 starts, he's struggled to an 8.53 ERA and 2.03 WHIP while averaging 87.9 mph with his fastball. He'll make at least a spot start or two in place of the injured Cole Ragans (calf), but it's hard to see the veteran having much success.

  • Rangers' Dallas Keuchel: Inks MiLB deal with Texas

Keuchel signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Monday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. Keuchel will report to Triple-A Round Rock after opting for a minor-league deal. He didn't last long on the open market, as he was officially released by Arizona earlier in the day. The right-hander will attempt to prove he deserves another chance in the big leagues after posting an 8.53 ERA and 2.03 WHIP with a 38:27 K:BB over 50.2 frames earlier this season between the White Sox and Diamondbacks.

  • Dallas Keuchel: Becomes free agent

The Diamondbacks released Keuchel on Friday. As anticipated, Keuchel wasn't claimed off waivers after Arizona designated him for assignment Wednesday. Since Keuchel wasn't going to be receptive to a minor-league assignment, Arizona elected to cut ties with the veteran southpaw entirely, allowing him to explore his options elsewhere. The 2015 American League Cy Young Award winner may be running out of chances in the big leagues, given that he's pitched to a 6.05 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 212.2 innings over 42 starts between the White Sox and Diamondbacks over the past two seasons.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Bounced from 40-man roster

The Diamondbacks designated Keuchel for assignment Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Keuchel caught on with the Diamondbacks after he was DFA'd by the White Sox earlier this year, but he will once again find himself a free agent after he likely clears waivers following his removal from the 40-man roster Wednesday. The left-hander owns a 8.53 ERA and 2.03 WHIP with 38 strikeouts over 50.2 innings in 12 starts with Chicago and Arizona this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Lit up in loss

Keuchel (2-7) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Giants. The Giants set the tone early and teed off for three home runs against Keuchel. The lefty has alternated between mediocre and awful in his first four games for the Diamondbacks, and he's doing little to prove himself worthy of a spot in the rotation. Through 50.2 innings between the Diamondbacks and the White Sox, he has an 8.53 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 38:27 K:BB. Arizona's off day Thursday likely means Keuchel won't pitch again until after the All-Star break.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Bounces back with quality start

Keuchel tossed seven innings against Colorado on Thursday, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four batters. He didn't factor in the decision. Keuchel's rotation spot may have been in jeopardy after he allowed 10 earned runs over 9.1 innings in his first two starts with Arizona, but the veteran bounced back with a strong effort Thursday. He tossed a campaign-high seven innings and didn't issue any free passes for the first time since his first start of the season (as a member of the White Sox) April 13. Keuchel had walked exactly three batters in four of his previous five outings, so his improved control Thursday was particularly notable. He still holds an ugly 7.63 ERA overall this season, but Keuchel at least demonstrated that there's some juice left in the tank with his second quality start of the campaign.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Lovullo noncommittal on next start

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo was noncommittal as to whether Keuchel will get another start, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Keuchel was roughed up by the Rockies on Saturday, but his final line may have looked better had a couple of plays been made behind him, one of which was not ruled an error. It's likely the left-hander remains in the rotation for at least one more start, as the Diamondbacks are down one starter after Zach Davies (shoulder) was added to the 15-day injured list.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Struggles in Colorado

Keuchel (2-6) allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Rockies. Keuchel didn't do that well in his first start for Arizona on June 26, and pitching at Coors Field was a tough ask for him in his encore. He got off to a rough beginning, yielding four runs, including a three-run home to Brendan Rodgers, in the first inning. Keuchel got into trouble again in the fourth, allowing a bases-clearing triple to Connor Joe. In 10 starts this year, Keuchel sports an 8.27 ERA, 2.10 WHIP and 30:26 K:BB across 41.1 innings between the Diamondbacks and the White Sox. The southpaw's spot in the rotation is far from secure, but he lines up for a home rematch with the Rockies next week if he gets another turn.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Will get another start

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo confirmed Tuesday that Keuchel will get another start, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. This news may have been expected, but Lovullo's comments suggest Keuchel is still in an audition phase. The left-hander made his Diamondbacks' debut last Sunday, giving up four runs in 4.1 innings. The 15 swinging strikes induced were more than he registered in any of his eight starts while with the White Sox. Keuchel will likely remain in the rotation going forward, particularly after Arizona placed starter Zach Davies on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. He's expected to start Sunday in Colorado but could be moved up to take Davies' spot Saturday.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Strikes out seven in Arizona debut

Keuchel allowed four runs on six hits and three walks and struck out seven over 4.1 innings versus the Tigers on Sunday. He did not factor in the decision. Keuchel showed some promise with the season-high total in strikeouts, but it was still an inefficient performance. He threw 98 pitches (55 strikes) to get 13 outs in his first outing with the Diamondbacks. For the season, he has a 2-5 record, a 7.93 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 27:23 K:BB through 36.1 innings, which includes his first eight starts this year with the White Sox. If Keuchel remains in the majors, he's projected for a tough road start in Colorado next weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Contract selected for Sunday start

Keuchel had his contract selected by the Diamondbacks and is starting Sunday's game versus the Tigers. Keuchel was let go by the White Sox in late May but quickly latched on with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league deal, and he'll join the big-league club after making two starts in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The veteran left-hander posted a 7.88 ERA and 20:20 K:BB in 32 innings over his eight starts with Chicago to begin the year, but Arizona will hope the change of scenery can bring some different results.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Starting Sunday

Manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Keuchel will be called up from the minors to start Sunday's game against the Tigers, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports. The club needs to make room on the 40-man roster before calling up the veteran left-hander. Keuchel was designated for assignment by the White Sox on May 28 and was picked up by Arizona later that week. He made two starts with the Diamondbacks' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, tossing 12 innings and striking out 17 between the two outings while conceding seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and two walks.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Impresses, may start Saturday

Keuchel went seven innings in an outing for the Diamondbacks' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League and could make a start this weekend for Arizona, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. He allowed three runs (two earned) with one walk and struck out 13. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo described the outing as "extremely good," while pitching coach Brent Strom marveled at the swings and misses on pitches in the zone. Beyond the veteran lefty making rookies look foolish, there are other signs that point to Keuchel joining the team's five-man rotation as soon as Saturday. Another potential candidate, Luke Weaver, who was roughed up in a start Saturday, did not throw a bullpen session Tuesday. That would have been the day to throw on a normal starter's routine. Instead, Lovullo confirmed Weaver will be available as a reliever in the coming days. The manager added the team is "targeting someone this weekend" to start against the Tigers without naming Keuchel. Adding to the speculation, Keuchel's minor-league deal includes three opt-out dates if he's not promoted, with the first coming Saturday.

  • Diamondbacks' Dallas Keuchel: Pitches in ACL

Keuchel allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four for the Diamondbacks' affiliate in the Arizona Complex League on Monday. This was Keuchel's first game action with the organization after signing a minor-league contract last week. He threw about 80 pitches and did "fairly well," Arizona pitching coach Brent Strom told Theo Mackie of the Arizona Republic. The coach was pleased with the number of strikes thrown and the lefty's signature sinker; the downside was the fastball was not where Strom wanted to see it. Strom and Keuchel have history from when the two were with the Astros, and the coach will monitor the pitcher's off-day throwing session Thursday.
