Ray (9-3) pitched a complete game to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out seven over nine innings.
Ray was perfect through four innings before giving up a solo home run to Eugenio Suarez in the fifth. Ketel Marte added a solo shot in the ninth, but Ray was allowed to finish off the contest, doing so on 102 pitches (69 strikes) in a stellar performance. The southpaw has logged a quality start each time he's gone at least six frames this season, with this being his 12th quality start in 18 outings. It was also his first complete game since his lone career shutout back in 2017 when he was a member of the Diamondbacks. Ray has a 2.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 117:39 K:BB across 107.1 innings this season. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Phillies.

Ray fired five scoreless frames before surrendering a solo homer to Andrew Benintendi in the sixth. That ended up being the only run scored in the contest, resulting in Ray taking his second loss over his past three outings. In both of those defeats, Ray has also notched a quality start, and he hasn't give up more than three earned runs in an appearance since April 16, so he's not pitching terribly despite a so-so 3.54 ERA in five June starts. Ray still ranks among the top 15 qualified MLB starters with a 2.75 ERA and 110 punchouts on the season.

The San Francisco southpaw conceded a season-worst eight base knocks in this 88-pitch outing over which he fired 61 strikes. Ray allowed two long balls -- solo homers to Romy Gonzalez and Ceddanne Rafaela -- in a start for the first time since his first appearance of the season at Cincinnati on March 30. Despite this unsteady performance, Ray remains one of the elite starting pitchers in the game. Ray had produced eight straight quality starts between April 26 and June 5, and he was back at that level Tuesday after a four-inning effort in Colorado last week. Ray continues to successfully overcome a fairly high walk rate (3.6 BB/9), as he has a 2.68 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 97:35 K:BB over 87.1 innings through 15 starts. His next outing is projected to be at home versus the Red Sox this weekend.

Ray completed the fourth frame without further damage, but he ended that inning at 93 pitches and didn't come out for the fifth. It wasn't all bad for the veteran hurler, as he racked up 15 whiffs and extended his streak of striking out at least five batters to nine contests. Ray is tied for 11th in the league with 92 punchouts this season, and he's added a strong 2.55 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across 81.1 innings.

Ray (7-1) tossed seven innings Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out nine batters in a loss to Miami.
Ray was excellent in the outing, racking up 19 whiffs and nine punchouts while throwing 65 of 98 pitches for strikes. However, the Marlins squeezed out a run against him on two walks and a single in the second inning, and that tally held up to hand the southpaw his first lost of the campaign. Despite the defeat, Ray managed to extend his streak of quality starts to seven, and he lowered his season ERA to an impressive 2.43. The veteran hurler is also tied for 10th in MLB with 78 punchouts, and Ray remains in the early conversation for NL Cy Young consideration with his standout start to the campaign.
