Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays. Bogaerts took Chris Bassitt deep in the third for his second home run of the year and later worked a bases-loaded walk in the ninth to give the Padres some insurance. Sunday was Bogaerts' first multi-hit effort since April 3, and he's knocked in runs in back-to-back games for the first time since the opening series in Japan. It's been a slow start for the 31-year-old, as he's now slashing .204/.275/.290 with 10 RBI, 15 runs and a 9:18 BB:K in 102 innings.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Idle Saturday
Bogaerts isn't in the Padres' lineup for Saturday's game against the Dodgers. Bogaerts has been rather underwhelming to start the season, slashing .219/.275/.297 through 69 plate appearances. He'll get a chance to regroup Saturday while Tyler Wade starts at second base, allowing Eguy Rosario to cover third.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Swats first homer of 2024
Bogaerts went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Monday in a 9-8 victory versus the Cubs. Bogaerts capped a seven-run sixth inning for San Diego with a two-run blast that brought the team to within a run. It was the first homer of the season for the second baseman, and it marked the first time he has knocked in any runs since the team's third game of the campaign. Bogaerts has been quiet to start the season, slashing a modest .250/.304/.327 with 10 runs and six RBI through 52 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Swipes bag, notches two hits
Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Cardinals. Bogaerts is looking to work his way out of a bit of a slump, having gone hitless in four of his previous five games entering Wednesday and going 2-for-18 (.111) in that stretch. Even with the mini cold spell, Bogaerts owns a solid .286 average in 2024 after logging two hits in each of his first three games. Bogaerts also got on the board in the steal column Wednesday, lending some hope to the idea that the now-second baseman could repeat his career-high 19 steals from a season ago.... See More ... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Moving to second base
Manager Mike Shildt announced Friday that Bogaerts will move to second base this season while Ha-Seong Kim takes over at shortstop, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. Kim is viewed as the superior defender and won a Gold Glove at the keystone last year, and the Padres new skipper didn't waste any time moving to shore up his defense at a premier position. An eventual move off shortstop always seemed inevitable after Bogaerts joined the team on an 11-year, $280-million contract in December of 2022, but it's a bit of a surprise the transition is happening so soon. Bogaerts' fantasy value for 2024 should rise a bit thanks to dual-position eligibility after he posted a .285/.350/.440 slash line with 19 home runs and 19 steals last season.... See More ... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Position change possible?
Padres manager Mike Shildt indicated last week that he could eventually discuss a possible position switch with Bogaerts, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Shildt said that Bogaerts is projected to play shortstop in 2024 "right now" but added that he will talk with the 31-year-old soon and indicated that an eventual move to the right side of the infield -- presumably second base -- would be discussed. Bogaerts actually graded out well defensively at shortstop for the second year in a row in 2023, but Ha-Seong Kim is viewed as the superior defender there and top shortstop prospect Jackson Merrill could be ready before long.... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Notches 19th steal
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Giants. Bogaerts has gone 20-for-49 (.408) with four steals over his last 11 games. The shortstop is at 19 thefts on the year, as well as 19 home runs, putting him just shy of his first 20-20 campaign with four games left on the schedule. He's at a .283/.350/.441 slash line over 151 contests this season.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Three more hits Wednesday
Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Rockies. After struggling for much of the year, Bogaerts is putting together a massive finish to his first season with the Padres. The shortstop has reeled off six straight multi-hit performances, and through 17 games in September he's batting .471 (32-for-68) with nine doubles, a triple, four homers, five steals, eight RBI and 19 runs. Bogaerts needs just one more home run and two more stolen bases to record his first career 20-20 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Delivers walk-off homer
Bogaerts went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over the Rockies. The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the ninth; however, Bogaerts stepped up and launched a two-out, two-run home run to plate Trent Grisham and win the ballgame. Bogaerts has collected multiple hits in five consecutive contests, a span in which he's 11-for-23 (.478) with six runs scored and three RBI while striking out at a 12 percent clip.... See More ... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Productive in win
Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Monday's 11-9 win over the Rockies. Bogaerts didn't get a chance to go for the home run he needed for the cycle, but he showed off some impressive speed Monday. He stole home and hit his first triple of the season in the contest, which was his fifth multi-hit effort over his last six games. The shortstop is up to a .279/.348/.433 slash line with 18 home runs, 51 RBI, 75 runs scored, 17 steals and 29 doubles through 144 contests. He hit leadoff Monday with Ha-Seong Kim (abdomen) out of the lineup -- Bogaerts has primarily hit fifth over the last month.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Records steal in win
Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 8-3 win over the Athletics. Bogaerts is batting .444 (20-for-45) with three steals over 12 contests in September. He's logged five multi-hit efforts in that span as he seems set to put together a strong finish after a challenging first season with the Padres. The shortstop is up to a career-high 16 steals this year while adding 18 home runs, 50 RBI, 70 runs scored and a .273/.343/.424 slash line through 141 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Not in lineup Wednesday
Bogaerts is absent from the lineup Wednesday versus the Dodgers. Ha-Seong Kim will play shortstop and bat leadoff as Matthew Batten handles second base and hits eighth. This appears to be a routine day off for Bogaerts, who has slashed .439/.489/.805 in 45 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to September.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Pads lead with homer
Bogaerts went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Monday's 11-8 win over the Dodgers. Bogaerts saw an eight-game hitting streak snapped Sunday, but he was right back at it Monday. His biggest knock was a ninth-inning homer to pad the Padres' lead to 11-7. The shortstop has gone deep three times this month and now has 18 long balls on the year. He's added a .273/.341/.425 slash line with 50 RBI, 70 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and 27 doubles over 139 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Goes yard in win
Bogaerts went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 11-2 win over the Astros. Bogaerts' homer extended San Diego's lead to 5-1 in the third inning. The shortstop has been dialed in to begin September, going 14-for-27 (.519) with six extra-base hits over the first seven games of the month. He's at a .271/.340/.417 slash line with 17 homers, 49 RBI, 68 runs scored and 14 stolen bases through 136 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Another four-hit effort Tuesday
Bogaerts went 4-for-4 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 8-0 win over the Phillies. This was Bogaerts' second four-hit effort in a span of three days. He's started September hot, going 12-for-18 (.667) with four extra-base hits, three RBI and eight runs scored over his last five games. The shortstop is up to a .272/.342/.413 slash line with 16 home runs, 14 stolen bases, 48 RBI, 66 runs scored and 24 doubles through 134 contests overall.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Racks up four hits Sunday
Bogaerts went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-0 win over San Francisco. Bogaerts produced San Diego's second run of the contest with an RBI double in the first inning and added three more singles and a theft the rest of the way. The shortstop notched his second four-hit effort of the season, with his previous such performance taking place Aug. 11 against Arizona. Bogaerts has three multi-hit outings over his past five games, going 9-for-17 with three extra-base hits and two RBI over that span.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Pops solo shot
Bogaerts went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Giants. Bogaerts is up to 16 homers this year, four of which have come in his last 13 contests. While he's shown a little more power lately, he's batting just .220 (11-for-50) over that span. The shortstop is at a .261/.332/.399 slash line with 46 RBI, 61 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 131 games this season, putting him on track for his worst numbers since 2014, which was his first full major-league campaign.... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Goes deep in loss
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Milwaukee on Saturday. In another quiet performance by San Diego's offense, Bogaerts provided an early spark with his second-inning solo shot. The shortstop has been flashing more power of late, going deep three times in his past six games. However, he has only one other hit and no walks while batting just .174 over that span.... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Belts 14th homer
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Marlins. The shortstop took Sandy Alcantara deep in the sixth inning to break open what had been a 1-0 pitchers' duel. Bogaerts is still struggling to get into a groove at the plate, and through 21 games in August he's batting .256 (21-for-82) with three of his 14 homers on the season and seven of his 44 RBI.... Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Homers in nightcap
Bogaerts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Game 2 of a twin bill against the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Bogaerts went 0-for-4 in the matinee but bounced back with a fifth-inning solo homer for the Padres' only run in Game 2. The long ball was just his third in 35 games since the All-Star break, though the shortstop has otherwise hit well over that stretch, slashing .292/.338/.401 with seven RBI, 12 runs and four thefts. Bogaerts has belted a modest 13 home runs this season, with four of them coming over his first 12 contests.... See More ... See Less
