Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is headed for the disabled list after being diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of his left hand, reports Sweeny Murti of WFAN. The injury resulted from Rodriguez's being struck by a Felix Hernandez pitch on Tuesday night in Seattle.

On the season, Rodriguez is hitting .276/.358/.449 with 15 homers and 11 steals. It's likely that Eric Chavez will fill in at third base during Rodriguez's absence. Chavez is batting .276/.331/.487 thus far in 2012.

Murti also reports that Chavez suffered a similar injury several years ago and missed six-to-eight weeks as a consequence.
