That weathered flask shared by those flinty gents huddled 'round the garbage-can fire under the expressway overpass? Not even that is passed around as much as Sandy Rosario has been of late.

Rosario, who has an ERA of 15.26 in 7 2/3 innings sprinkled lightly across three major-league seasons, has been positively clogging up the transactions wire in recent weeks. Witness what's befallen him since the end of the 2012 regular season ...

  • October 17: Selected off waivers by the Red Sox from the Marlins. 
  • November 28: Traded by the Red Sox to the A's for a player to be named.
  • December 10: Claimed off waivers by the Red Sox from the A's.
  • December 12: Claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the Red Sox.

Perhaps Boston GM Ben Cherington, apparent thief of hearts, needs to stop toying with Mr. Rosario's emotions? All the paper shuffling to no observable end makes one wonder whether Sandy Rosario, reputed major-league reliever, is actually a mortgage-backed security.

Cause for uplift: Rosario remains a Non-Marlin, which, we can all agree, is the best team to play for. Or be transacted by, as the case may be.
