The Royals have designated catcher Brett Hayes for assignment to clear a 25-man roster spot for Salvador Perez, who returned from the disabled list Sunday. Hayes went 3 for 11 with two doubles in three games with the Royals after hitting .231/.280/.441 in 238 at-bats with Triple-A Omaha.
