Impending free agent Jason Giambi is scheduled to undergo hernia surgery next week, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Giambi, who turns 42 in January, hit .225/.372/.303 in 113 plate appearances for the Rockies this season. The 113 plate appearances are a career low for the 18-year veteran, who has hit .280/.403/.522 with 429 home runs in his career.

The 2000 AL MVP could potentially replace Jim Tracy as the Rockies manager if Tracy is let go by the team and if Giambi doesn't sign a free-agent deal this offseason.
