The San Diego Padres have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $605,000 deal with outfielder/first baseman Kyle Blanks, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

This was the first time Blanks was eligible for arbitration.

Blanks, a 42nd-round pick by San Diego in 2004, made just six plate apperances in four games last season before having surgery in April to repair the labrum in his left shoulder.

The 26-year-old has a .219/.316/.421 line with 20 home runs in 488 major-league plate appearances over four years.
