Rangers sign Colby Lewis to one-year contract extension

Colby Lewis, who was scheduled to enter free agency after the 2012 season, has signed an extension with the Rangers.

The Texas Rangers have signed starting pitcher Colby Lewis to a one-year contract extension, the team announced on Monday.

Terms of the deal weren't announced, though a news conference was scheduled for 2 p.m. ET Monday.

After the Rangers exercised Lewis's 2012 option for $3.25 million, the right-handed pitcher was scheduled to reach free agency at the end of this season.

Lewis, who hasn't pitched since July 18, is recovering from July elbow surgery that likely curtailed free-agent expectations in the market this winter.

He finished 2012 with a 6-6 record in 16 starts with a 3.43 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 105 innings.
