Two pitching notes from Friday:

  • Toronto has placed left-hander J.A. Happ on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured foot. He is expected to miss four months, Mike Wilner of the Blue Jays Radio Network reported. Happ has started 24 games between Houston and Toronto this season with a 4.73 ERA but an above-average 4.03 FIP. A four-month timetable would make him just barely available for the beginning of spring training.
  • The Cubs have claimed Jason Berken off waivers from the Orioles, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reported. Berken has appeared in only one game for the Orioles this season. For his career, he owns a 5.40 ERA in 230 innings, all coming with Baltimore.
