Jim Thome

The Phillies have been without slugger Jim Thome since April 28, but they've finally activated him from the disabled list, tweets Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Thome's back injury caused him to miss 36 games. To make room on the roster for Thome, the Phils have optioned infielder Pete Orr back to the minors.

Thome is hitting a lousy .111/.238/.111 on the season, but that's in a sample of just 21 plate appearances. It's not certain how productive he can be at age 41 and without regular playing time, but his return at least gives Charlie Manuel options.
