Mets outfielder Marlon Byrd has been claimed off waivers by an unknown team, sources said, and the Mets could try to trade him.

Sources suggest it was a National League team that made the successful claim. The Pirates, Reds and others all could use Byrd.

With his low salary ($700,000) and surperb season, it is likely he was claimed by multiple teams, but only the first eligible team will have a chance to trade for him.

Byrd is having a resurgent season after a dreadful one last year, with 21 home runs, 71 RBI and a .285 atting average.

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reported the Mets may look to trade Byrd, catcher John Buck and reliever Pedro Feliciano, and perhaps others with longer contracts, in the wake of the Matt Harvey injury news.
