Cardinals outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig left Wednesday night's game against the Giants with a hamstring injury, and it's currently unclear if he'll be able to return to the field soon. Carlos Beltran was absent from the lineup, too, due to some discomfort in his right knee.

"We're still checking it out," manager Mike Matheny told reporters, in regards to return dates for Beltran and Craig (via St. Louis Post-Dispatch).

Remember, center fielder Jon Jay was placed on the disabled list earlier this week with a shoulder injury.

Since Craig refused to talk with reporters Wednesday night and Beltran's injury was termed as "lingering discomfort" (Post-Dispatch), we have no way of knowing the severity of either issue at this point. But what if both have to hit the DL?

That would leave Matt Holliday as the only outfielder from the Cardinals' best four. They could start Shane Robinson or Skip Schumaker in center with Matt Carpenter in right, but that's not quite Holliday-Jay-Beltran with Craig as a backup option.

The Cardinals are the best in the business at dealing with injuries, but they're starting to pile up.
