Ian Stewart returns to Cubs for $2 million

The Cubs have re-signed third baseman Ian Stewart to a one-year deal worth $2 million after an injury-filled 2012.

The Cubs have re-signed third baseman Ian Stewart CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman confirms.

The deal is worth $2 million for one year with another $500,000 of incentives, according to multiple reports. However, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports the deal is not guaranteed.

Stewart, 27, hit .201/.292/.335 with five home runs in 55 games for the Cubs last season. He's played each of the last two seasons with a broken bone in his wrist, but is back to full health, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.

The Rockies' first-round pick in the 2003 draft, Stewart hit .236/.323/.428 with 54 home runs in parts of five seasons with Colorado. He hit 25 home runs in 2009, but batted just .228/.322/.464 that season, playing 147 games, the most in his career.
