The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Saturday they have exercised their 2013 option on closer J.J. Putz, which is for $6.5 million.

If the Diamondbacks had declined the option, they would have owed Putz $1.5 million.

Putz signed a two-year deal with the Diamondbacks in 2010. He saved 77 games for the Diamondbacks over the last two seasons while posting a 2.48 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 126 strikeouts in 112 1/3 innings.
