The Blue Jays announced Friday that the team had claimed right-handed pitcher Chad Beck off waivers from the Pirates.
Beck, who was waived by the Blue Jays and claimed by the Pirates in late October, pitched in 14 games for Toronto in 2012, posting a 6.32 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.
Initially drafted in the 43rd round by the Blue Jays in 2004 but not working out a deal with the organization, Beck was selected by the Diamondbacks in the 14th round in 2006. The Blue Jays then acquired him via trade in August 2008 in a one-for-one deal for shortstop David Eckstein.
Beck has posted a 4.33 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 7.3 K/9 ratio over 617 2/3 minor league innings. In addition to his time in Toronto, Beck pitched 48 innings in the Pacific Coast League for Triple-A Las Vegas, going 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 24 strikeouts and 18 saves.
