No team has been to the College World Series as many times as Texas, so the expectations are sky-high for the Longhorns, especially as they transition to the SEC in 2025. The Longhorns and head coach David Pierce parted ways on Monday, and now athletic director Chris Del Conte has the task of filling one of the most high-profile jobs in the sport. The past five national champions have come from the SEC, so the Longhorns know the competition will be fierce. With a rich history and money seemingly not much of an object for the Longhorns, they are expected to move swiftly and to pursue some of the top names in all of college baseball. If you love the Longhorns, or just want to know who will be calling the shots for Texas in 2025, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at Horns 247, the 247Sports affiliate that covers Texas.

Top Texas baseball coach candidates

One name the staff has identified as a potential target is Clemson head coach Erik Bakich. He got his first head coaching job at Maryland in 2010. While he never made the NCAA Tournament with the Terrapins, he helped them reach new program heights as their 32 wins in 2012 were the second most in program history.

He then jumped to Michigan in 2013 and led the Wolverines to five NCAA Tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish at the College World Series in 2019, the deepest run for Michigan since 1962. He's 88-35 in two seasons at Clemson with an impressive 40-20 mark against the stacked ACC, though he's yet to get the Tigers to Omaha.

"Bakich is considered to be one of the top baseball coaches in the country for the work he did at Maryland and with the Wolverines before leading Clemson to its first Super Regional since 2010," Howe said. See more candidates at Horns 247.
