- UCLA lost promising redshirt freshman wide receiver Devin Lucien with a broken clavicle, Jim Mora confirmed to reporters. Also, the biggest cat in the world is officially out of the bag -- UCLA fans saw the offensive debut of behemoth freshman Ellis McCarthy, who spent much of last week practicing at offensive guard. The Bruins' most promising recruit in a decade at defensive end, McCarthy could see a big role if the UCLA line suffers any more injuries.
- USC center Khaled Holmes left practice early with a brace on his ankle and with a trainer, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reported. Holmes' absence has already proven costly for the Trojans this year, and he'll have to get well soon, as the USC travels to Utah for a Thursday night matchup.
- No, Rich Rodriguez isn't bitter at all. Arizona, which allowed more than 600 yards to Oregon State in a 38-35 loss to the Beavers on Saturday, did not name a team defensive MVP for the game, Ryan Finley of the Arizona Daily Star wrote.
- Despite a surprise upset of top-10 Stanford, Washington enters its matchup with Oregon on Saturday as a heavy underdog. The Ducks are favored by 24, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reported.
- Kenjon Barner is finally busting out of LaMichael James' shadow, Aaron Fentress of the Oregonian wrote. Barner, who was lacking for big plays through the first three weeks, had 195 yards rushing including an 80-yard touchdown in Oregon's win against Washington State.
