Florida Atlantic vs. Charlotte: Live updates, score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game

Game Recap

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Florida Atlantic Owls' strategy against the Charlotte 49ers on Saturday. The Owls blew past Charlotte 43-13. That result was just more of the same for Florida Atlantic, who also won the last time these teams played (Oct. 21 of last year).

Florida Atlantic's offense rushed out of the gates and came up with 26 first-half points. Charlotte wasn't quite able to keep up, and the score was 26-7 heading into the break. The offense for Florida Atlantic continued to do well in the second half, scoring another 17 points to put the game away.

The Owls can attribute much of their success to RB Larry McCammon III, who rushed for one TD and 118 yards on 14 carries. That touchdown -- a 52-yard rush in the first quarter -- was one of the highlights of the contest. Florida Atlantic's CB Justin McKithen got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the second quarter into a touchdown.

Special teams collected 13 points for Florida Atlantic. K Morgan Suarez delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.

A silver lining for the 49ers was the play of QB Chris Reynolds, who passed for two TDs and 196 yards on 19 attempts. Reynolds' 52-yard touchdown toss down the left side of the field to WR Grant DuBose in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night. The matchup pushed Charlotte down to 0-1 and pulled the Owls up to the reverse at 1-0.

Florida Atlantic will square off against the Ohio Bobcats at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday at Frank Solich Field at Peden Stadium. Florida Atlantic is expected to win -- but not by much -- so they will need to come into the matchup prepared for a fight. Charlotte will look to defend their home turf on Friday against the William & Mary Tribe at 7 p.m. ET.
