  • Aaron McFarling of the Roanoke Times recapped a fantastic back-and-forth between Virginia Tech running backs coach Shane Beamer and a 70-year-old woman at a community sports meeting. At one point, the woman asked if the Hokies are trying to find good offensive linemen. "Well, we don't try to find BAD ones," Beamer replied.
  • Tim Buckley, a safety from Raleigh, N.C., became the first Penn State player to transfer on Monday, as he's heading to NC State, wrote Tom Fornelli of CBSSports.com. Buckley went to Penn State as a walk-on but will be on scholarship at NC State.
  • Virginia's offense will focus on its trio of running backs, wrote Mark Giannotto of the Washington Post. Senior Perry Jones will lead the rushing attack, but sophomores Kevin Parks and Clifton Richardson will get plenty of work.
  • Florida State junior linebacker Telvin Smith is looking to earn a starting role and have a breakout year, wrote Corey Clark of the Tallahassee Democrat. Despite being a reserve, Smith was fourth on the team with 8.5 tackles for losses in 2011.
