COMMERCE, Texas (AP) Diante Smith scored a career-high 29 points and hit clutch 3-pointers to lead Nicholls to a 87-84 double-overtime victory over Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday.

Byron Ireland scored eight points in double-overtime, including back-to-back layups that gave Nicholls the lead for good at 83-80 with 51 seconds left. Ireland's two free throws made it 86-82 with 11 seconds remaining.

Smith's deep-3 with one second left in the first overtime sent the game into a second tied 77-all. Smith also capped the scoring in regulation, 65-all, with a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left.

Smith shot 5 of 8 from long range and added 11 rebounds for the Colonels (10-10, 5-2 Southland Conference). Ireland finished with 21 points and five rebounds. Jamal West chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds.

The Lions (7-12, 1-5) were led in scoring by Tommie Lewis, who finished with 26 points, six assists, three steals and two blocks. Kalen Williams added 16 points for Texas A&M-Commerce. Zondrick Garrett also recorded 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
