Player Outlook
Michael Toglia played in 45 games for the Rockies last season but spent the final month of the campaign in the minors. He had a .163/.224/.284 slash line with four homers in 152 plate appearances, and he had a 34.6 percent strikeout rate through 76 career big-league contests. The 2019 first-round pick had an .842 OPS with 16 homers in 78 games at Triple-A in 2023, so he has little else to prove offensively at the minor-league level. Toglia should have a chance to earn a place on Colorado's Opening Day roster, but his opportunities are likely to be inconsistent without a significant improvement.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Returned to minors

The Rockies returned Toglia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday. Toglia was up as the 27th man for the Rockies' two-game series over the weekend in Mexico City versus the Astros but didn't see any action. He's slashed just .106/.143/.362 across 49 big-league plate appearances this season.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Added as 27th man

The Rockies added Toglia to their active roster Saturday ahead of their series against the Astros in Mexico City. The Rockies were permitted to add an additional position player to their roster for their two-game series in Mexico City, so Toglia will come up from Albuquerque to provide additional flexibility at first base and in the outfield. The 25-year-old has slashed .106/.143/.362 across 49 big-league plate appearances.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sent down to minors

The Rockies optioned Toglia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. The 25-year-old is being sent out in favor of Hunter Goodman, who was called up from Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Toglia has slashed just .106/.143/.362 with a 20:1 K:BB over 15 games with the big club this season.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Clubs another homer

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Monday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies. Toglia launched his fourth home run of the 2024 campaign, matching his homer total from a season before in 34 fewer games. Despite his impressive power output, Toglia owns a poor .167 on-base percentage with a massive 36.1 percent strikeout rate.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Getting start in right field

Toglia will start in right field and bat eighth in Monday's game versus the Phillies. Toglia's playing time this season has been hit-or-miss, as he followed a stretch of five starts in seven games with just two starts in six contests prior to his start Monday. He could see a little more action if Kris Bryant's (ribs/back) injury lingers.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Making most of playing time

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Toglia has carried over a power surge from spring training, as he has three home runs across only 26 plate appearances in the regular season. He is still in the Rockies' lineup on an irregular basis, though he has started six of the last 10 games after not starting in any of the team's first three games. Toglia could be working his way into a small-side platoon role, as two of his last three starts have come in right field with Charlie Blackmon sitting against a lefty.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Gets chance with Bryant out

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Saturday against the Rays. The Rockies shuffled their lineup with Kris Bryant (back) sidelined, with the end result being Toglia drawing the start in right field. It marked Toglia's fourth start through nine games, though he's still one of four hitters on the team with multiple home runs. While he's currently without a regular spot in the lineup, Colorado could turn to him more as it searches to improve its offensive firepower in what has been a sluggish start to the new campaign.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Belts first homer

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to the Cubs. Getting the start at first base and batting eighth, Toglia spoiled Chicago's combined shutout bid by taking Jose Cuas deep in the seventh inning, but it was the only bright spot on the night for the Rockies. The 25-year-old has started two of the last three games at first base as Kris Bryant splits his time between first and right field, and Toglia has gone 2-for-8 in those contests with Tuesday's blast being his first extra-base hit of the season. Counting DH, Colorado is rotating four players through three spots with Charlie Blackmon and Elehuris Montero also in the mix, so the door could be open for Toglia to claim more playing time if he heats up at the plate.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Making second start

Toglia is starting at first base and hitting eighth in Tuesday's contest versus the Cubs. It's Toglia's second start in six games after he reached base twice in his first one. Kris Bryant is playing right field Tuesday, while Charlie Blackmon will occupy the designated hitter slot.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Makes Opening Day roster

Toglia has been informed that he has made the Rockies' Opening Day roster, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Toglia beat out Sean Bouchard for the final spot in the outfield. The 25-year-old could see action in right field mostly against left-handed pitching, and he's also capable of filling in at first base on days Kris Bryant plays the outfield or is at designated hitter.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Checks back into spring lineup

Toglia (neck) will start at first base and bat cleanup in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Guardians. Toglia was scratched from the starting nine ahead of Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks while he dealt with neck stiffness, but the injury doesn't look to be anything that will derail his bid for the Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old corner outfielder/first baseman has made a compelling case to win a bench role with the Rockies this spring, as he's slashing .333/.429/.700 through his first 14 Cactus League games.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Late scratch with stiff neck

Toglia was scratched from the Rockies' Cactus League lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks due to neck stiffness, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Toglia should be considered day-to-day. Hunter Goodman will take Toglia's spot in the lineup, playing first base and batting eighth.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Strong start to Cactus League

Toglia has gone 3-for-7 with two home runs through his first three games of the Cactus League. Toglia has earned 272 plate appearances in the majors combined across the last two seasons, but he's struggled to just a .187/.246/.325 line in that span. As a result, he's in a battle for a roster spot as a reserve at first base and in the outfield, along with the likes of Hunter Goodman and Elehuris Montero. Toglia will need to continue to perform well to ultimately earn a roster spot, but he's made a strong impression early on this spring.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Optioned to Triple-A

Colorado optioned Toglia to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. Toglia showed some promising flashes down the stretch in 2022, but the 25-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder has slashed just .163/.224/.284 in 45 games (152 plate appearances) this season at the major-league level. Cole Tucker is being summoned from Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Sitting in third straight

Toglia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The switch-hitting Toglia finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row, this time versus Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman after he had been excluded from the lineup against a pair of southpaws in the first two contests of the series. Dating back to Aug. 9, Toglia is slashing .127/.186/.291 with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate over a stretch of 17 games, and his ongoing slump may have prompted manager Bud Black to pull the plug on the youngster in an everyday role. Elehuris Montero will pick up a third straight start Sunday at Toglia's expense.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Flashing power potential

Toglia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Orioles. Toglia has held a regular role in the Colorado lineup since July 16, when he was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. In that span, he's hit just .170 with a 33 percent strikeout rate, though he has homered in two of his last three starts -- neither of which have come at home. The Rockies have shown a willingness to let Toglia play through his struggles, though the addition of Hunter Goodman to the roster could complicate his playing time moving forward.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Takes seat Wednesday

Toglia is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Tampa Bay. Toglia slugged a home run in Tuesday's loss to the Rays but will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Charlie Blackmon is getting a start in right field and Jurickson Profar will be in the designated hitter spot while Toglia sits.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Takes hold of everyday role

Toglia will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Padres. With the Rockies moving first baseman C.J. Cron and outfielder Randal Grichuk ahead of the trade deadline, Toglia appears to be temporarily locked into an everyday role, at least until Colorado gets the likes of Charlie Blackmon (hand) and Kris Bryant (finger) back from the injured list. Toglia will pick up his fifth straight start Wednesday and his 10th start in the last 11 games. He's hitting just .194 with two extra-base hits over his last 10 contests.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Making most of plate appearances

Toglia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Wednesday against the Nationals. Toglia has gotten five consecutive starts at first base with C.J. Cron (back) sidelined. He's now collected hits in each of his last three games while tallying a double, a homer, three RBI and three runs scored. Cron is expected back Friday, so Toglia's playing time in the short term will likely dry up, but he could see more run across the final two months of the campaign depending on the Rockies' moves at the trade deadline.

  • Rockies' Michael Toglia: Nabs fifth straight start

Toglia will start at first base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Nationals. He'll stick in the lineup for a fifth consecutive game, manning first base once again while C.J. Cron (back) remains out of the lineup. Over the previous four games, Toglia went 3-for-16 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Cron has said that he expects to return to the lineup Friday versus Oakland, so Toglia could soon be headed back into a reserve role.
