Dubin was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Less than 24 hours after collecting his first career big-league save in a three-inning appearance, Dubin was sent down to Triple-A. In a corresponding move, Parker Mushinski was called up. Through 13.2 innings with the Astros, Dubin has logged a 6.59 ERA with a 13:7 K:BB.... See More ... See Less

Astros' Shawn Dubin: Earns first save
Dubin picked up his first save in a win over Oakland on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits over three innings while striking out two. The right-handed reliever surrendered a leadoff single to kick things off in the seventh and advanced the runner on a wild pitch before they would eventually make their way home. However, Dubin cruised through the next two frames and recorded his longest appearance of the campaign in an 8-1 win. On the downside, he's now allowed at least one run in two of his last three appearances as he continues to work in a low-leverage role.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Activated Saturday
Dubin (forearm) was activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday. He only ended up missing the first 16 days of the season with a forearm strain. Dubin should pitch in low-to-mid leverage spots out of Houston's bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Shelved with forearm strain
The Astros placed Dubin on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right forearm strain, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Dubin didn't pitch in any Grapefruit League games this spring while recovering from what prior reports had described as shoulder inflammation, but the Astros are now labeling his injury as a forearm strain. The right-hander was able to face hitters earlier this week, so he could soon be ready to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Faces hitters Monday
Manager Joe Espada said that Dubin (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Monday at the Astros' spring training facility, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Facing hitters in a live BP setting marks a meaningful step forward in the recovery process for Dubin, who didn't make any appearances during the Grapefruit League after experiencing shoulder inflammation early in camp. As a reliever, Dubin likely won't require a lengthy ramp-up period, but he appears on track to begin the season on the 15-day injured list unless the Astros elect to option him to Triple-A Sugar Land.... Astros' Shawn Dubin: Nursing shoulder inflammation
Dubin will be shut down from throwing for three days because of right shoulder inflammation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Some early spring shoulder inflammation isn't uncommon, but it won't help his bid for a bullpen spot. Dubin allowed seven runs over nine innings while striking out 11 during his brief time with the Astros last season.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Makes return from IL
Dubin (undisclosed) has struck out seven while allowing two earned runs on two hits and three walks over 4.1 innings across two appearances since being reinstated from Triple-A Sugar Land's 7-day injured list Aug. 17. Dubin had been sidelined for about three weeks with the unspecified injury. The 27-year-old right-hander made three appearances for Houston earlier this season but has otherwise spent the 2023 campaign at Sugar Land, pitching to a 6.64 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 42 innings.... Astros' Shawn Dubin: Bound for Triple-A
The Astros optioned Dubin to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. After working in relief in his first two big-league appearances, Dubin entered the rotation Sunday and took a no-decision while limiting a tough Texas offense to one run on three hits and two walks. Though Dubin acquitted himself well Sunday, the Astros opted to swap him off the 26-man active roster for right-hander Brandon Bielak, who was called up from Sugar Land in a corresponding move. If he isn't needed in relief over the next couple of days, Bielak will likely step in the rotation when the Astros next require a fifth starter Friday versus the Mariners.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Goes four innings in spot start
Dubin allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over four innings, taking a no-decision in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Rangers. Dubin worked up to 68 pitches (39 strikes) in his first big-league start, and he did an effective job of quieting a strong offense. The run on his line came on an Adolis Garcia sacrifice fly in the first inning. It's unclear if Dubin will stick in the Astros' rotation beyond Sunday -- Framber Valdez (ankle) is questionable to pitch again before the All-Star break. If Dubin starts again, it'll likely be during a four-game home series versus the Mariners.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Pitching again at Triple-A
Dubin (elbow) has surrendered 10 earned runs on 14 hits and three walks while striking out seven across 7.1 innings in three appearances for Triple-A Sugar Land since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list May 31. Dubin was on the shelf for about a month with a right elbow strain, but he appears to be getting stretched back out again now that he's healthy again. Over his 26 innings with Sugar Land this season, the 27-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 7.96 ERA and 1.69 WHIP.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Out with elbow strain
Dubin has been placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Sugar Land with a right elbow strain, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The 27-year-old righty could have been an option for spot starts in the big-league rotation amid recent injuries to Luis Garcia and Jose Urquidy if he'd been pitching well and was healthy. However, Dubin had a 6.27 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 18.2 innings prior to the injury. He should be considered out indefinitely.... See More ... See Less -
Astros' Shawn Dubin: Moves to minor-league camp
Houston optioned Dubin to its minor-league camp Sunday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports. Dubin has been with the big-league club to start spring training but will now shift over to the minor-league side. The right-hander posted a 4.78 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 80:32 K:BB over 58.1 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land last season, and he'll likely need improved results in 2023 if he's going to make his MLB debut.... Astros' Shawn Dubin: Demoted to minor-league camp
The Astros optioned Dubin to their minor-league camp Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Dubin is expected to return to Triple-A Sugar Land to begin the 2022 campaign after he turned in a 3.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69:19 K:BB in 49.2 innings with the affiliate a season ago. After being added to the 40-man roster over the offseason, Dubin should be on the shortlist for a call-up to the big club if the Astros have a need for a spot starter or multi-inning reliever.... Astros' Shawn Dubin: Added to player pool
Dubin was added to the Astros' 60-man player pool Sunday. Dubin, who is not on the 40-man roster, is a rail-thin starting pitcher that achieved a noteworthy level of success at High-A Fayetteville in 2019. Not much was expected of the 402nd overall pick (13th round) in the 2018 draft out of tiny Georgetown College (Kentucky), but Dubin put himself on the radar last season. The right-hander posted a 3.92 ERA (2.34 FIP) while striking out 132 and walking 42 over 98.2 innings, including 18 starts, for the Woodpeckers. He likely would have started the season at Double-A Corpus Christi, so the Astros are expected stash him in the alternate camp, where the 6-foot-1, 154-pounder can continue his development....
