Padres' Yu Darvish: Wins with scoreless outing
Darvish (2-1) yielded three hits and a walk over five shutout frames Monday, striking out five and earning a win over the Cubs.
Darvish scattered baserunners throughout his outing but ultimately kept the Cubs quiet for five innings. He was 0-1 with a 4.18 ERA before a brief stint on the injured list. Since returning, he's fired 10 shutout frames and dropped that number to 2.94 across seven starts. Darvish matched his season best with 15 swinging strikes, eight of which came via the slider. Darvish is in line for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers this weekend.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Blanks reds over five innings
Darvish (1-1) grabbed a win over the Reds on Tuesday, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just three hits in the outing. He struck three and did not walk a batter.
Darvish was finally able to pick up his first win of the season and help the Padres end a five-game losing streak. Tuesday was his first shutout effort since July 29 of last year. He was efficient, needing 70 pitches to get through five while inducing a bunch of weak contact. His strikeout numbers remain low in comparison to his career numbers, as he's now struck out three or fewer batters in three of his six starts so far. Still, Tuesday's outing was exactly what the Padres needed out of him, and he'll take a 3.45 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB into his next outing, which projects to be against the Cubs at the beginning of next week.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Reinstated for Tuesday's start
The Padres activated Darvish (neck) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the Reds.
The veteran right-hander has been sidelined the past couple weeks with neck tightness, but he'll rejoin San Diego's rotation Tuesday after a minimum-length stay on the injured list. Darvish posted a 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB across 23.2 innings through his first five starts of the season, and he could have some minor workload limitations in his first outing back with the Friars.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Set for Tuesday return
Darvish (neck) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Reds, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Darvish landed on the IL on April 17 with neck tightness, but he'll be ready to return when first eligible after he checked out fine while throwing a bullpen session last Wednesday. Before his brief shutdown due to the injury, Darvish didn't display his best stuff through his first five outings of the 2024 campaign, posting a 4.18 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 22 punchouts over 23.2 frames.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Throws bullpen session
Darvish (neck) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
Darvish's bullpen session marked his first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list April 17 with neck tightness. Padres manager Mike Shildt indicated that Darvish wasn't throwing with full effort, saying the right-hander "was on the gas, but didn't have it to the floor." Darvish will likely require at least one or two more bullpen sessions before progressing to facing hitters and then perhaps heading out on a rehab assignment. There's no clear timeline yet for his return to San Diego's rotation.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Shelved with neck tightness
The Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with neck tightness.
San Diego had previously confirmed Darvish to make his sixth start of the season Saturday versus Toronto, but the veteran right-hander's neck injury might have cropped up during a recent throwing session. His placement on the IL is retroactive to Monday, so Darvish will be eligible for activation as soon as April 30. The Padres recalled reliever Logan Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso to take Darvish's spot on the 26-man active roster, but it's not immediately clear whom San Diego might turn to when Darvish's turn in the rotation comes up this weekend.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Low strikeout numbers Sunday
Darvish did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings.
All of the damage against Darvish came in the fourth inning after he allowed an RBI single to Will Smith before Max Muncy brought him home with a two-run shot to right field. Outside of that, Darvish did not face much traffic on the bases, though he posted just seven whiffs on 92 pitches and has seen his strikeout numbers decrease in each start since he had seven March 28. The 37-year-old owns a 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB in 23.2 innings and will go for his first win of the year his next time out, which projects to be against the Blue Jays.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Lasts just three frames Monday
Darvish pitched three innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters in a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.
All of the damage on the scoreboard against Darvish came in the second inning, when he retired the first two batters he faced before allowing six straight Cubs to reach base in a four-run outburst. The veteran hurler was pulled after three frames with San Diego down 4-0, but a late Padres offensive surge took him off the hook for his second loss. Darvish logged a season-low three innings in the contest while giving up a season-high four runs, so it's safe to say that this was his worst outing of the campaign so far. He's still pitched pretty well overall though, as he holds a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB through four starts covering 18.2 frames.
