Mets' Tomas Nido: Homers for team's only run
Nido went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Guardians.
Nido accounted for New York's only run of the contest with a 405-foot solo shot in the third inning. The long ball was his second of the campaign and first since April 26. Nido is batting .241 on the season but has gone 9-for-30 (.300 average) over his past 10 games.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Solid in return
Megill (0-2) took the loss against Cleveland on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over five innings.
Megill made his first big-league start since exiting his season debut March 31 with a right shoulder strain. He had a nearly full workload with 86 pitches and allowed just four hits over five frames, but three of them came consecutively in the first inning, resulting in a pair of runs. Though that was enough to saddle him with the loss, this was a promising return for Megill, who should settle into New York's rotation moving forward after racking up a career-high 25 starts and 126.1 innings last year.

Mets' Starling Marte: Ejected from series opener
Marte was ejected from Monday's game against the Guardians after arguing a called third strike, SportsNet New York reports.
Marte didn't agree with a called strike three to end the top half of the fourth inning, and he was ejected while walking out to his position in the bottom half of the frame. Tyrone Taylor replaced Marte in right field.

Mets' Kodai Senga: Dealing with triceps tightness
Senga (shoulder) did not throw a scheduled bullpen session Sunday due to right triceps tightness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Senga had seemingly been making good progress recently as he works his way back from a right posterior shoulder capsule strain, but he's now encountered another speed bump. The hope is that he'll be ready to throw off the mound later this week, but the Mets will likely wait until the right-hander is pain-free before he resumes a throwing program.

Mets' J.D. Martinez: Returns to lineup Monday
Martinez (illness) will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in Monday's game in Cleveland.
Martinez sat out Sunday's contest due to flu-like symptoms but is feeling well enough to give it a go in this one. The veteran DH has slashed .315/.359/.466 with two home runs in 21 games to begin his tenure with the Mets.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Activated from IL ahead of start
The Mets activated Megill (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list Monday.
Megill is set to rejoin the Mets' rotation Monday in Cleveland after missing all of April and much of May with a right shoulder strain. He was excellent during his rehab assignment, allowing just one earned run with a 23:1 K:BB over 14 innings. Megill threw 74 pitches in his fourth and final rehab start, so he should be good for 90 or so Monday.

The Mets optioned Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
Hartwig's latest stint in the big leagues lasted less than a week, and he allowed four runs (three earned) over 3.2 relief innings. He's clearing out to make room for Tylor Megill's return from the injured list.

Mets' Matt Festa: Gets minors deal from Mets
The Mets signed Festa to a minor-league contract Sunday.
Festa was released by the Padres last week after posting a 4.50 ERA and 16:7 K:BB over 16 innings with Triple-A El Paso. He's landed on his feet quickly and will head to Triple-A Syracuse for now, where he will give the Mets some veteran relief depth.

Mets' Adrian Houser: Drawing start Tuesday
Houser is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Guardians at Progressive Field.
Houser had made his last two appearances as a reliever, but he'll slot into the rotation at least temporarily and afford all other five starters some rest while the Mets are in the midst of a stretch of 13 games in 13 days that ends Wednesday. After Thursday's off day, the Mets will have another stretch of 13 games in 13 days, but unless he impresses Tuesday, Houser may not be the top choice to stick around in a starting role if New York expands its rotation to six men. Rather than Houser, Jose Butto -- who posted a 3.08 ERA over seven starts before being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse last Wednesday -- would look to be a more worthy candidate to rejoin the big-league rotation.

Mets' Brandon Nimmo: Clubs homer
Nimmo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored during Sunday's 7-3 win over the Marlins.
After going 0-for-12 during the Mets' series against Philadelphia, Nimmo has started the Marlins series 2-for-8 (.250) with a double, a two-run home run and five total runs scored. Nimmo's homer Sunday came off Anthony Bender in the ninth inning and marked the outfielder's seventh of the season. In 193 plate appearances, Nimmo owns a .777 OPS.

Mets' Reed Garrett: Lands six-out save
Garrett earned the save Sunday against Miami, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts over two scoreless innings.
Garrett took the ball in the eighth with the Mets leading 4-3 and, after striking out the side and getting four runs of support, stayed out to complete the ninth. It's unclear if Garrett would still have gotten the save chance if New York didn't extend its lead, but he's still a candidate for saves moving forward with Edwin Diaz moving out of the closer role temporarily to get back on track.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Picks up win
Manaea (3-1) earned the win Sunday against Miami, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.
Manaea allowed three or fewer runs for his sixth straight appearance, but he did yield his second homer of the campaign when Dane Myers hit a two-run blast in the second inning. Although Manaea hasn't gone deeper than six innings this year, he owns a solid 3.11 ERA with 41 strikeouts across 46.1 innings. He's on track for a home start against the Giants next Sunday.

Mets' Rhylan Thomas: Headed to Triple-A
Thomas was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Thomas has gotten off to an impressive start with Double-A Binghamton this season, batting .323 with eight doubles, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored and six stolen bases over 96 at-bats in 25 games so far. The outfielder will look to continue his success at the plate with Triple-A and is now just one step away from the majors.

Mets' Blade Tidwell: Promoted to Triple-A
Tidwell was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Tidwell will join Syracuse after producing a 2.41 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 37.1 innings in seven appearances, including five starts, with Double-A Binghamton this season. The 22-year-old will look to impress at Triple-A in order to earn a potential major-league promotion, which may not be far down the road.

Mets' Reed Garrett: Save chances possible
Garrett will likely be in the mix for save chances going forward after manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that closer Edwin Diaz will shift to a "fluid" role, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
It's not a full demotion, but Diaz is now slated for lower-leverage work to help get his confidence back after giving up seven runs in his past three outings. Garrett entered 2024 with a 7.11 ERA in 31 career appearances in the big leagues, but he's turned into a major bullpen piece for the Mets with a 0.78 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB in 23 innings. Adam Ottavino should also be an option for saves until Diaz is back on track.

Ottavino should be in the mix for save opportunities going forward after manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday that closer Edwin Diaz will shift to a "fluid" role, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
Diaz had a strong start to the season after missing all of 2023 with a torn patellar tendon, but his confidence is off after a period where he's given up seven runs in his past three outings. Ottavino has a 2.95 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 26:6 K:BB across 18.1 innings this season and has recorded eight holds and a save in a setup role. Reed Garrett should also be in the mix for the ninth inning until Diaz rediscovers his form.
