Diamondbacks' Gino Groover: Recovering from broken wrist
Groover will be out until at least mid-July with a broken left wrist, AZCentral.com reports.
A bat-first player who lacks a natural defensive position, Groover suffered the injury April 9 when his glove arm made contact with a baserunner while trying to receive a throw at first base. Groover hit .375 with a .444 OBP and two steals in four games for High-A Hillsboro before ending up on the 60-day injured list.

Diamondbacks' Matt Beaty: Gets minors deal from Arizona
The Diamondbacks signed Beaty to a minor-league contract on Tuesday.
Beaty, 31, hasn't played anywhere in 2024 after slashing .230/.347/.295 in 30 games in 2023 between the Giants and Royals. He's been assigned to Double-A Amarillo, where he'll provide Arizona with some veteran depth.

Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Back in lineup
Suarez went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.
Suarez was back in the starting lineup after getting his first day off of the season Sunday. His seventh-inning double snapped an 0-for-12 run. Suarez, who is hitting .155 with a .478 OPS during May, has yet to find a groove for his new club. For the season, he's slashing .212/.279/.324 through 47 games.

Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Will need MiLB games
Thomas (hamstring) will require minor-league rehab games before rejoining the Diamondbacks, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Thomas had been on the verge of returning earlier this month but felt something in his injured left hamstring after a rehab game at Triple-A Reno on May 5. He has since received a platelet-rich plasma injection and begun ramping up again -- running in a pool and taking live at-bats. Thomas made 13 plate appearances over three games during his first rehab assignment, which may be a barometer for how much time the outfielder needs on a second rehab stint.

Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: Raps out three hits
Newman went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.
Newman has five multi-hit efforts over his last nine games, going 15-for-31 (.484) in that span. The shortstop still isn't hitting for a lot of power, but he's been able to make decent contact. For the season, he has a .276/.311/.439 slash line with two home runs, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, a stolen base, eight doubles and a triple over 103 plate appearances. Newman should continue to handle the starting job at shortstop at least until Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is able to return, likely in early June.

Diamondbacks' Jake McCarthy: Pops homer in Monday's loss
McCarthy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.
McCarthy has two homers over 16 games in May, but he's collected just five hits over his last eight contests. The outfielder is up to two homers on the season while slashing .283/.357/.414 over 114 plate appearances. He's added three stolen bases, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored, five doubles and a triple. Pavin Smith has been the biggest threat to McCarthy's playing time in right field lately, and Randal Grichuk is also in the mix to poach some at-bats versus southpaws.

Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Homers in loss
Gurriel went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.
Gurriel snapped a 26-game homer drought with his eighth-inning blast. The outfielder has gone 11-for-45 (.244) over his last 12 contests, adding just five RBI and five runs scored in that span. He's at a .236/.284/.385 slash line with six homers, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases over 44 contests this season. He's never posted a batting average lower than .261 or an OPS lower than .743 over a full season, so there's room for Gurriel to turn things around in 2024.

Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Poor showing Monday
Cecconi (1-4) took the loss Monday versus the Dodgers, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings.
Cecconi was partially sheltered Monday by pitching behind opener Joe Mantiply to avoid the top of the Dodgers' order at the start of the game. That proved to be a wise choice, though it ultimately didn't pay off, as Freddie Freeman's grand slam in the third inning off Cecconi was the decisive hit of the game. This is the third time in four outings Cecconi has given up six runs, and the second time this year he's allowed multiple homers -- he also gave up solo shots to Enrique Hernandez and Will Smith. Cecconi has a 6.12 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB over 32.1 innings across six appearances (five starts). He's projected for a much easier home matchup versus the Marlins his next time out.

Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Perfect day at plate
Pederson went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Tigers.
Pederson opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning, then plated another run the following frame. He now has three games with at least three hits this month and has six hits over his last five games. Though he's strictly been platooning against righties, Pederson has been effective when in the lineup, slashing .317/.421/.558 with five homers, 12 RBI, 16 runs and a 15:30 BB:K in 127 plate appearances.

Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Shaky results in no-decision
Montgomery allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in six innings Sunday against the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision.
Montgomery surrendered a third-inning home run to Spencer Torkelson, and the Tigers got to him for additional runs in the fifth and sixth. He came back out to begin the seventh and allowed a leadoff walk before exiting the game for good, and that runner eventually came around to score. Montgomery managed to reach six innings for the fourth time in six starts but has not struck out more than four batters in any of those four outings. Though a small sample size, Montgomery's strikeout rate this year is on pace to be the lowest of his career, and he's also walked multiple batters in four straight starts. The 31-year-old owns a 4.98 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 20:11 K:BB in 34.1 innings. He lines up for a home meeting with the Marlins his next time on the mound.

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Locks down save No. 3
Sewald secured the save Sunday against the Tigers by working a perfect ninth inning. He struck out one.
Sewald needed just 10 pitches to get the job done and picked up a strikeout against Spencer Torkelson in the process. He's now converted all three of his save chances on the year and has tossed four straight scoreless innings while giving up just one hit since yielding a run in his season debut May 7.

Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Set to open Monday's game
Manager Torey Lovullo said Mantiply will serve as the Diamondbacks' opening pitcher for Monday's game against the Dodgers, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
The left-handed Mantiply has limited opposing lefties to a .275 wOBA over his career, so the Diamondbacks will likely hope that he can limit the damage from the Dodgers' usual Nos. 2 and 3 hitters -- left-handed batters Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman -- before he turns the game over to the bullpen. Monday had been Slade Cecconi's turn in the rotation, and the expectation is that he'll work behind Mantiply in bulk relief.

Diamondbacks' Slade Cecconi: Working behind opener Monday
Cecconi is expected to operate as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Joe Mantiply in Monday's game against the Dodgers, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Two of the Dodgers' usual top three hitters (Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman) bat from the left side, so manager Torey Lovullo will likely have the left-handed Mantiply work the first inning or two before turning the game over to the right-handed Cecconi. The arrangement should increase Cecconi's chances of qualifying for the win while perhaps helping him generate better results after he tagged for six earned runs in two of his previous three starts.

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Triples in two straight
Carroll went 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over Detroit. He was also caught stealing.
Carroll tripled to lead off the bottom of the first inning and scored the first of two Arizona runs during the frame. It was the second straight game with a triple for Carroll, who finished second in MLB last season with 10 three-baggers. He was moved back to the leadoff spot seven games ago, but it hasn't done much to break Carroll's season-long slump; he's 4-for-24 with three extra-base hits and five runs since the move and has been caught stealing twice.

Diamondbacks' Randal Grichuk: Scores winning run
Grichuk went 1-for-2 with a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Tigers.
Grichuk singled as a pinch hitter to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning and came around to score the winning run. He's been incredible as a pinch hitter, going 7-for-10 with a walk when batting for a teammate. The right-handed hitting outfielder/DH is typically in the lineup against lefties and has made just four starts over the last 17 games.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Extends, ends streak
Marte went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over Detroit.
Marte extended a hit streak to 18 games with a second-inning single. His single two innings later ended another streak: the switch hitter entered Sunday's contest with exactly one hit in 15 consecutive games. It seems counter-intuitive, but Marte's batting average has actually dropped during the streak, from .307 to .292. It should be noted he's done more than just hit singles during the run; Marte has four doubles, two triples, four home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored over those 18 games.

Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Starts at third base
Alexander started at third base and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Tigers.
Alexander had one of the two productive run-producing outs in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Diamondbacks reclaimed a lead they lost in the top half of the frame. He started for the fourth time in the last eight games, and it was his first start at third base. After a spell as the regular fill-in for Geraldo Perdomo (knee) at shortstop, Alexander has taken a back seat to Kevin Newman. With recent news coming out that Perdomo is expected back in two weeks, Alexander could be moving down to the minors in early June.
