WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: CM Punk and Roman Reigns tease feud ahead of Survivor Series: WarGames

Jacob Fatu earned his WarGames team an advantage with a clean win over Jey Uso

Roman Reigns, CM Punk, The Usos and Sami Zayn have the deck stacked against them at Survivor Series: WarGames. On Friday, Jacob Fatu cleanly beat Jey Uso to earn his team an advantage in The Bloodline vs. Bloodline WarGames match.

Solo Sikoa's Bloodline will benefit from a one-man advantage in the interval-based match. One superstar from each team begins the match with a new participant entering at timed intervals. Since Fatu defeated Jey, a member of Fatu's team will be the first additional superstar to enter WarGames. That means at various points in the match, The Bloodline 2.0 will have two-on-one, three-on-two, four-on-three and five-on-four advantages before members of Reigns' team even the odds.

SmackDown also featured a tense, cinematic meeting between Reigns and Punk. Other highlights include undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes in action and a triple threat match in the inaugural women's United States championship tournament.

Roman Reigns and CM Punk convene, Jacob Fatu is inevitable

SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis informed both WarGames parties that everyone would be banned from ringside for Jey vs. Fatu.

Later in the show, WWE aired a pre-taped sitdown between Reigns and Punk. Heyman mediated the conversation. Tensions flared from the get-go. Punk was late for their meeting. Reigns claimed he didn't need or want Punk's help. Punk countered by insisting he was only here at Heyman's request. Heyman interjected, reminding both parties this partnership was mutually beneficial. Heyman said Sikoa had Reigns in checkmate since the night after WrestleMania. The Wiseman further argued that Punk would be next on The Bloodline's hit list due to his association with Reigns and status in the promotion. Reigns and Punk agreed to set aside their differences for one night. Punk alluded to a one-on-one clash with Reigns and claimed that Heyman owed him a favor. When Reigns asked Heyman what the favor was, Heyman suggested they focus on Survivor Series instead.

Jacob Fatu def. Jey Uso via pinfall to score The Bloodline an advantage at Survivor Series: WarGames. Fatu did not look out of place in his first WWE singles match. Fatu overwhelmed Jey with unmatched physicality and athleticism. Fatu took small breaks between beatdowns to express his love for Sikoa and talk down his opponent. Jey's speed provided him with brief openings that were often extinguished by Fatu. The most impressive moment of the match featured the hulking Fatu executing a handspring into a standing moonsault. Fatu shockingly kicked out of a spear and Uso splash combo. The match ended shortly after Fatu crushed Uso with a Samoan drop to the announcers' table. An Impaler DDT and top rope moonsault sealed the deal for Fatu.

WWE made every correct decision in finalizing story beats before WarGames. Fatu continues to shine as arguably the most compelling Bloodline member. He needed to win cleanly to emphasize his potential and his team's chances of winning at WarGames. Putting the heroes at a disadvantage is textbook drama. Elsewhere, Reigns and Punk's cinematic meeting hit all the right notes. It highlighted their shaky alliance, made sense of Punk's inclusion and planted the seeds for a blockbuster future rivalry. Grade: A
